80mb boot HD (internal - Apple original model)
1gb storage HD (also internal - IBM model)
12mb ram ... i will upgrade this soon ... probably add a 64mb SIMM
Farallon 10mbps LC PDS ethernet card
NO FLOPPY ... who needs it when you have ethernet
System 7.5.5

all running beautifully and serving my iMac as a small fileserver .. i might overclock it if i have the guts ... but thats for later

dude, there's so many 68X chips around.
get them cheap man!!

one thing still expensive about old apple computers is the battery.
1 might cost up to $15.

upgrade your ram.. really worth it.
physical ram is 950% better than virtual ram.

i used to have an LC 475. so i like all LC.
now mine is LC 580. good luck with your LC III.
hope you have a good time with it. i enjoying my time with my 580/

Nah, it can only take an extra 32 megs of RAM. According to LEM, it just doesn't like anything higher.

If you swap out your Mobo with an LC475/Quadra 605 Mobo, you can use a 128 meg RAM stick and more VRAM too. Plus you'll be running an `040, so you can run OS 8.1.

Just a thought, if you *really* like the form factor of the LCIII. (I do! -My LCIII now sports a Q605 motherboard with 136 megs of RAM. Your farallon Ethernet card will work in the Q605/LC475 motherboard too. Give it a thought. LC475 mobo's are usually pretty cheap on eBay.

Oh, and take a tip from Dana and consider flipping the fan upside down. Seems to move more air over the CPU that way.

i would like to get hold of a 605 .. i love the design ... it alot nicer than the III/475 ... with feets ... but its really hard to find them in the UK ... so if anone has one i can buy ... 475s are quite common ... but if i was going to get either i would get a 605 ... just for the case ...

I agree with you, ~tl. The 605 case is much cooler than the Pizzabox LC case. On top of that, it sort of looks like it could take a full height SCSI drive, which is cool. If you try and put a fat drive into a pizzabox, well....you can't, unless you want to just sit the lid on top of the machine, or move the machine into a different case.

another good thing about the 605 is that it has a flat top ... so unlike the LCs you can set pens on top of it and they dont roll off

Ever tried putting the pens parallel with the lines that go down the top of the LC?
