Those ads with the jiggling banners and rapid-flashing messages are REALLY annoying. They're also potentially dangerous to someone prone to epileptic seizures. I don't mind the quietly changing messages, like 'Rebuild your Credit', but the flashers and jigglers are just beyond the pale./Mr Lynn PS ~Coxy: did you see the ad for Western Union money transfers? I have to agree- I understand that this all ain't free (servers don't grow on trees), and that the ads may help cover expenses, but still, I wish that there was some way to have better control over which ads are used around here. Being a happy capitalist, I don't have too much problem with the principal of online ads, but, being also a dedicated Mac user, I'm also very concerned with the astetics and elegance of my interface to the information I'm seeking, and a lot of the "YOU'RE ALREADY A WINNER" and "HIT THE TARGET TO WIN"-style ads are really jarring, and not something I (or anyone else, I think) would put up with as a part of their computer interace. It's sorta the visual equivalent of someone screaming advertising slogans while you listen to NPR- I don't think anyone would listen for long.... Okay, I'll let someone else have the soapbox back... It seems like we have the WEIRDEST rotation of banners. Some of them are perfectly fine and I click on, but the flashing ones and whatnot, i just scroll as fast as I can to get them outta the way.*stares into the "Hit the Target one" and loses his train of thought....* *boards train once again* Yeah ~The Penguin **| Want free 68kmla email? As frustrating as it is to look at some of the ads, I think it's more-so to be the one seeking them out to try and support this service we all love. If it's the animation that bothers you, just turn off the "Animate Gifs" in your browsers prefs. The pop-ups are my personal bane, but as long as it's just one that doesn't continually regenerate itself, I'm cool with that too. What "We" could do to show some support is if the ads aren't what you believe to be appropriate for whatever reason, then look around for some affiliate links that you do believe would be good and get the info to Coxy. He's one person trying to satisfy, what, almost 400 members now? Let's not take his work for granted considering he has a full life outside of here to take care of too. I don't mind ad-bashing myself, but I would rather have a few options to offer when I do."One slip and down the hole we fall" Styder's Community, a neighborhood for all: http://www22.brinkster.com/originalstryder/db/ |

Well, if: A) Everyone hates popup ads B) They don't contribute much to the financial wellbeing of the MLA C) I can't negotiate a banner w/o the flashers/popups (although it seems like we'll be able to)then there'll be no more ads! If they earn some insane amount of cash or something, I can print up t-shirts and give them to people for free. haha that's great.. flashers and jigglers :DI promised myself a long time ago, my sites and forums will never have advertising, whether it be banner ads, popups, or the inline ads that the news sites like. It's just wrong, was never meant for the web. I don't see any ads on this site, my browser is probably blocking them if there are. I don't see any point in advertising on here, unless it was for a Mac-related product or company, like smalldog or something.. even still, online advertising is just annoying and (for the most part) fruitless. --- Liberated 68xxx Macs: IIsi, IIci (2), LC II, Classic II (2) Liberated PowerPC Macs: Powerbook 5300cs, Power Mac 7500/100 Other: Color StyleWriter 2400, AppleCD 150 (cd-caddy type!), Apple 12" Monochrome Display, Apple Color Display (13") Edited by - dave1212 on 25 Jul 2003 17:15:43 |

Those of you who use Hotline will be barraged by these so called ads, and find thay many of them are adult in nature, giving away free condoms or XXX DVD's which I think is sick, and I even reported it to Cydoor, but nothing.Someone will get them.
