I was dismantling my IIci and my 7100 PowerMac yesterday as I was claening them for sale to another good home. I noticed ho similar the boards were in layout. I tried the 7100 board in the IIci case but it had fidderent rear connectors. I then struck upon the idea that the Q700 has a more similar back of connectors to the 7100 (built in ehternet, 2 audio, 1 ADB etc..) and thought maybe the 7100 board would fit in a Q700 case? Nayone know if this is the case (scuse the pun)?-- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA, LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |

Hmmm, interesting idea. I have three 7100's that are gathering dust...if only I had a Q700 case to swap one of the mobos into!666th poster and 666th thread-creator Mod of the Mac II series Forums Total 68K Macs liberated: 7 I Have No Legs! |

The only reason I ask is I hate the 7100 case design. The problems I foresee are:1. The HPV card has no access on the Q700 case so you'd have to do some light plastic surgery to cut anouther slot for the 15-pin video connector because..... 2. The HDI-45 video connctor on all those cursed x100 PowerMacs doesn't fit inside the lines of a standard DB-15. Another bit of plastic surgery - perhaps a little less drastic than the 4th slot idea 3. The RAM is right under the drive bays. It uses 72-pin RAM so one would have to mid their P's and Q's about what height RAM they use lest they should crush it. I'm pretty sure this is an issue on Q700s anyway.... Other than that I think it might work. I'm off to read the service manuals -- Mark Benson FlatPackMacs http://fpm.gotdns.com 2nd Lieutenant - 68kMLA, LC Quartermaster Flat Packing Macs for 68k MLA airlift excercises Macs Liberated = 14! |

aren't the IIcx/IIci and the Q700 mobos interchangeable?jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

IIRC, the upgrade path was IIcx->IIci->Q700, but each has a different back panel.<<<John>>> (Still kicking myself for passing up the Q700 for $5 a year ago.)

That's what I paid for mine a couple of months ago! Will the Q650 board fit into the IIci? maybe they match up better, the 700's case is a POS compared to the IIci's as far as I'm concerned. jt ™. Trash Hauler: call sign: eight-ball C.O. AC-130H SpecOps 68kMLAAF |

Cinemafia posted a link to a Japanese website that had a 700 => 7100 hack on it.
