redghost amn you have a lot of systems... 86 in my count.

Lets see... add an 8 here, carry the 4, subtract 1... you come out at the rank of Fleet Commander.

I also just wanted to mention one thing... my number of 68K Macs have decreased to 16. I was able to aquire a Power Mac 8100 Logic Board that I will be installing into my old Quadra 800 on Thursday.

Cool. If you were a founding member you would be considered as a Grand Admiral of the Fleet, probably. But since you weren't, you can be a Private, Second Class.

Ok.. I'm working on the site now, I had a BAD 2 weeks.

And I don't think PPC Macs count in one's Rank rating. I need to update my Sig... I have a couple more now.

Chaplains don't need to worry about rank :-)

Well, I hope none of you guys mind that a low acheiver such as myself has joined up in the 68k MLA. Does my humble reputation afford me this signature?
I'm perfectly willing to help out with that website for you, as I'm pretty handy with html, and I promise to do all the work for it on my quadra 660av. I could even host a server on that baby...I've got dsl. But I'm not sure I want to leave it on all the time, and if it crashes, I'd be at school. So that won't work so well. But I'm here to help. And I promise to hit up my old school for any 68k macs they've still got. Last I saw, they had a ton of LC's and classics. I'm off!

o.k., my opinion on 68k collecting:

go for rarity, history, quality, depth, and quantity in that order.

i would have to agree. can we get a ruling?

but redghost does have a nice collection (based on his post):

platinum or beige is the valid question here. going by my (personal) value system, the plus is a good mac to have. not very rare, but good historic value.

quote:
8x SE
5x SE HD

now, my valuation here is based on whether the FDHD SE's were original or upgrades. i like original 800k SE's and original FDHD SE's, but i'm not a huge fan of upgraded models.

quote:
3x SE/30

you can't have too many SE/30's. of course, factory-shipped are more desireable than upgrades.

quote:
2x Classic

interesting, not particularly useful, rather ubiquitous. neh.

quote:
2x IIfx
4x IIsi
5x IIcx
3x IIci

this is a nice Mac II cross-section. the II (and more important IIx) are notable absences, as is the horrid IIvx (which was the first Mac to ship with an internal cd-rom, and that's the only reason i'd want one). that said, it's a nice representation of the Mac II business lineup. obviously, the IIfxs and IIcis are more desireable as oe rather than upgrades....

quote:
2x Color Classic
2x LC
1x LCII
2x LC 575
2x LC 550

the consumer contingent. the color classics (obviously) have the most collector value. an LC III would be nice to round out the lineup, but i've never cared much for consumer models anyway.

quote:
4x Quadra 610
3x Quadra 650
1x Quadra 900
1x Quadra 800
6x Quadra 630

this is where i start drooling. quadras rock! still one of the best, most useful low-end workhorses you can get. really only needs an 840AV for perfection....

quote:
2x Mac Portable
1x PB 145
2x PB150
1x PB180
1x Duo 280c

the mobile contingent.... some people just collect powerbooks. i like 'em, but they cost a lot to collect. this is a nice addition to the general collection....

my personal 68k "Holy Grail(s)" in order:

10th Anniversary PowerBook 170
Fusion Data TokaMac IIfx (33 mhz 68040 upgrade for IIfx)
Applied Engineering TransWarp SE 40 MHz (40 mhz '030 with FPU and external video output for Mac SE)
Fusion Data TokaMac SX (25 mhz 68040 upgrade for SE/30)
and finally, a PowerBook 550c

I read now from The Book of Job(s):

And the voice broke from the Ether(net) and spake unto us, saying: "I call thee, my children, to save those named Vintage from the holes and pits of the Earth, and to return them to service. Keep their souls intact, and where that not be possible, feed their case and entrails to it's brethren, with proper ceremony and respect for the work that they have done.

For doing this, one will gain numbered praise, and rank, and title. Thy title be of your making; thy rank shall be elevated by increaseing ones numbered praise.

Thou shalt not reckon RISC in thy praise, nor shall any RISC you take into the flock have more than cursorary and social meaning.

Go, Liberate, Share, and Enjoy."

Don't worry guys, I got off my *** . I just bought 2 quadra 610's. I had to buy a processor for one of them, though. Oh well. Still cheap. Here's a question:
Suppose you liberate a VERY low end power mac. Can it be included in your total? Say a performa with a 60 mhz 603. Obviously it isn't 68k, but it's vintage for sure and still no G4 powerhouse or anything. Can I count that? I need to look good here

Booya! I love the Apple II series of computers! Since were all listing our equipment, I'll do the same:

2X Apple //c, one beige, one 'snow white'
Apple IIgs ROM 3, 4MB RAM, Sound input (for HyperStudio)
Apple IIe
Apple IIe w/Apple ][ mobo, so I guess it would make this an Apple ][
About 50 other IIgs, some working, some not. Any one need any spare parts?
IIsi(or is it ci? Blast!)
Quadra 700
Powerbook 190
SE/30 (Slowly dying I'm afraid )
Classic

Nah, it's not that much, but these machines (excluding the SE/30) still see active duty, the Q700 at my grandparents, my brother uses the classic, and I ocasionally(sp?) use the II's for text, or programming, or just having fun. Ahhh!

Man, talk about needing spare parts for a IIGS! Last week I needed a power supply. Instead, I bought another machine. Oh well. The motherboard is on my wall - great decor i say. Goes well with the classic mo-bo up there and the 40meg HD that I'm not sure what to do with. How's a 14.4 modem for a wall piece?

I'm not sure if this counts as 68k, but I rescued a Apple IIc monitor from a Goodwill last week. It was in its box, complete with original styrofoam, manuals, even the warranty card, unsent-in. Problem is, I don't have an Apple IIc to plug it into.

Anyway, here's a story that will cause you guys to weep, but I feel I must relay it. If only to educate us to never let it happen again.

A year or so ago, I went to a garage sale at the high school. They had a room full of old A/V equipment. I went in, and thought, "wow, I be they're asking lots of $ for this stuff." They had ~10 Classic II's, some older pre-Mac Apples, lots of discs and manuals. I asked them what they wanted for a Classic II, and the dim guy behind the desk said, "Uh, a dollar."

"What?!?! A dollar?"
"Yeah, we just want to get rid of em. What we don't sell, will probably go to the dumpster."

Oh my. I live in a very small house. I have no room for a collection of rescued Macs. I got one Classic II for a dollar, and some video equipment including a camera worth almost $1000 (for a dollar). Relucantly I drove away, and headed to another site where they had more Macs, including some Mac Classic carrying bags. They also had printers and all kinds of stuff: CD-ROM drives, etc.

I went home, and when it was too late, I thought "I want those Macs." But I didn't get them. Now I regret being so hesitant.

Sigh.

I've just managed to liberate myself two old 68k Macs (an SE/30 and a IIx) from being disposed of by the university where I'm studying. Surely this must be worthy of at least *some* standing in the MLA... is it? Please? Pretty please with silicon on top?

Your ideas intrigue me and I wish to subscribe to your newsletter.

That said, what might this get me? Or should I just rank myself?

Apple /// (broken AFAIK)
IIGS, full working order, lots o'software
Stacks of Apple and Mac manuals, including one of the first Apple ][ manuals (red cover)
SE, floppy-drive question mark. System-disk boot doesn't show HD icon.
Classic, liberated when he couldn't reseat the RAM chip, full working order
Mac II, IIcx, IIci, and IIsi. I know the II and IIsi work and am pretty sure of the other two.
LC, LC II (LC II has Apple IIe card, if I can make it work )
PB 180, fixed, beautifully working, and then dead in nine months.
ImageWriter II, if that gets me points.
At least I've cornered the '020 market.

Also: Do you think I should continue to purchase those which I already have one model of? Especially when they cost a couple dollars or less?

Refurb Madness, huh
That's cool, most places would just sell it for junk.
Got a IIsi on the way. hehehe.
Only PPC running now: G4DP550, PM8500/G3-454, PM7500/604e-233 and a 5300c/603e-100 but have a IIfx, a Plus and a Backlit-Portable. Oh yeah, an MP120 at work. I use the alarm on it... call it the "Cuckoo Newton". Also a couple of old "sewing machine" portable PC's and a full HP 110 system(first clamshell portable I'm told) - processor, external 3.5" dual floppy and mini Think-Jet printer, all battery powered(or not, at the moment)
Had several other oldies, but the ex-bloodsucker got them.
What's really amazing is that these "antiques" are less than 20 years old..

while cruising the this forum, I noticed that
you all have powerbooks. Now I know those don't
go for much on today's market, and so me being a student, I'm sure you
realize how convenient it would be to have a laptop
