Way to stop 6.0.8 -> 7.1 Desktop Rebuilding

Does anyone know of any software that will stop System 7.1 from trying to rebuild the desktop over and over again every time I restart in 7.1 from System 6?

There's an extension/INIT called Desktop Mgr that Apple offered for System 6.0.x. Allowed both 6 and 7 to share the Desktop DB an Desktop DF files, instead of 6 using the older Desktop file.
