New to Me - Power Mac G3 Beige Desktop – 266MHz – 224MB RAM – 6GB HDD – Mac OS 9, with first gen LCD Display, M4551

As I got started into considering vintage, found this monitor at the local computer and electronics recycler which also runs and supports with sales STEM programs in Boise. Seems like it sells, or is at least offered, for a lot as it was the first Apple LCD display. Anyhow, got that for 20 bucks, and then picked up this period correct machine below to put with it, (In researching, I learned the reviewers didn't like that dark navy translucent blue matched up with the beige. As we know that all changed with the new colors coming down the pipe the next year. With this, I can revisit the old CD-ROM version of the Myst games I played on my old Performa I used for work in the 90's and also play the Launch CD-ROM "magazine" discs I had with music, music vids, and game demos back then. And maybe also display some family pics or fun screen savers or whatever. Will be fun to mess with and maybe I can learn some more interesting mods too. Let me know if you have any ideas. :)

Thanks! It got here and I have it up and running. Not sure I’m getting the resolution and clarity and brightness I should be out of this monitor yet. It only lets me choose thousands of colors and as I understand it, the monitor is capable of millions. But it’s working! I guess I’ll do some reading and research to figure out how to see if I can sync the monitor and the computer and get more out of this combination.

OK, figured out this machine has an ATI rage 128 in it along with a USB and firewire port in another slot. Went through a little bit of confusion and trouble with having set the resolution wrong on the old Apple studio display, and then couldn’t fix it because I couldn’t see anything on the display, but managed to go get myself a used monitor down at the computer recycler along with some VGA cables for various upcoming things and other miscellaneous stuff and got this Acer monitor set up and was able to control the old Apple studio display from there. So now things are working! And starting to explore. I enjoy doing my Modern work on my Mac mini and my laptop and other devices, but it’s really pretty fine to go back and experience the older macOS world!
