Hi, I had a perfectly working ImageWriter II. However, the very old ribbon was not printing very dark. I regretfully followed some internet tips to revitalize the old ribbon using WD-40. This ribbon was now too wet and when used in the printer led to lots of smearing. Then I tried a new ribbon from Amazon with similar result. Figuring that the print head was dirty, I removed the printhead and tried to clean it with 70% isopropyl alcohol. After a short while, I noticed that the piece of plastic that keeps the pins aligned had floated off. I believe that the WD-40 had dissolved whatever adhesive was holding the guide in place.
Is this salvageable? So far I have not been able to get the plastic guide over the pins. And any ideas on what kind of adhsive is required?
Thanks...
