Apple Open Source historically inaccurate?

I’ve recently been doing some patching of modern Mac OS software to work on older (PowerPC era) OS X systems. I’ve made the unsettling discoveries that (a) the annotations in Mac OS 15 Sequoia’s headers seem to be very incorrect concerning when certain things became available, and (b) the github.com/apple-oss-distributions/* archives may not be particularly historically accurate either.

Has anyone else encountered similar… distortions of the record?… when compared to actual media from whatever period is being referenced?

On a similar topic, Wikipedia claims that Apple’s nonstandard “blocks” extension to C was also supported by the last versions of their fork of GCC. I’d have to test on Snow Leopard to be sure, but this appears not to be the case.

Apple’s always had “revisionist” issues with their dev notes. Sometimes the notes got written long after the fact by interns who weren’t actually around during the actual development, and just compiled the notes available from the actual developers. I gave up decades ago trying to get them corrected when they got published.
