A Challenge: Plastic Macbooks for July

I'm trying to open one of the IMG files from Macintosh Garden's Quake download on my MacBook.

Finally opened the SEA file to reveal the two IMG files. Opening the file with Disk Utility reports that it is a legacy image file and should be upgraded.

How do I open the IMG file in macOS Catalina?

Coming back to this:

All of my MacBooks have arrived in the post! Perhaps strangely, they all smell kind of fishy.

I'm going to attempt some plastic welding after work and I'll let you know how it goes!
