    Network on SE30

I did a fresh install of Mac OS 7.5.5 and checked all network related packages in the installer. Now i opened MacTCP but I can’t enter any IP address containing more than two numbers per group. It doesn’t seem to support DHCP. I want to assign the IP address 192.168.178.230, but it always cuts...

    Network on SE30

No I haven‘t yet. Will try this. Because I like the new platinum UI design more and I had an original Mac OS 8 install CD laying around. Does 7.6.1 perform a lot better? I can try to connect the SE30 with my Kanga G3 if Robin‘s approach does not work.

    Network on SE30

Hello together, I have an issue getting network on my SE30 with Mac OS 8.1. It has the Asanté MacCon SE30E network card in it with driver version 5.6.1 installed. I connected it to my router using an AUI to RJ45 10BASE-T transceiver (Allied Telesyn AT-210TS). The link LED turns on but there’s...

    RAM upgrade for Macintosh SE30

I ended up creating two 2 GB partitions and successfully installed Mac OS 8.1 on one of it. Will install 7.5.5 on the second one next weekend to have dual boot. I think this is a good approach.

    RAM upgrade for Macintosh SE30

Okay, that makes sense. So the only way to use 4 GB partition size is to insert the stock ROM, install Mac OS 7.5, then install the ROM-inator II and perform the necessary changes in ResEdit? If I boot from the 7.5 floppy with ROM-inator II installed it freezes at the “Welcome” screen. It’s a...

    RAM upgrade for Macintosh SE30

The RAM arrived and I upgraded it today. Additionally I put in a new HDD with 4 GB and a ROM-Inator II in order to be able to address the entire RAM without MODE32. But I’m not able to install Mac OS 7.5.3. Even though it should support up to 4 GB partition size, the installation does not work...

    RAM upgrade for Macintosh SE30

I’m looking for upgrading my SE30 from 4 to 32 MB of RAM. But I’m uncertain which type of RAM i need. There seem to be to types of 30pin SIMM modules: FPM and EDO. I found this modules, will they work? https://ebay.us/m/u2GWpM Does the SE30 support parity?

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

BlueSCSI is a cool thing but very expensive when shipped to Germany (about $80) and it’s not the same ambiance as it is with a rattling hard drive. But maybe it is worth the $80 as it enables you to mount floppy images using a web interface which is very convenient.

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

It’s a Quantum ProDrive ELS. As it’s impossible to remove the platter I won’t attempt any further repair and look for a larger replacement drive.

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

I replaced the leaky capacitors and cleaned the PCB. After that I opened the HDD and the rubber was indeed very sticky. I cleaned the entire metal holder properly (it was a mess to handle this goo) and replaced the rubber with a new one but the behavior is still unchanged :( Old sticky rubber...

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

During the swapping process with another HDD I saw some leakage from the capacitors in the power supply area of the 40 MB HDD. I will replace them and clean the PCB. Maybe this will solve the issue.

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

Still no boot from HDD :( But at least it boots from floppy, so the floppy drive is not damaged

Macintosh Classic II - Mistake during recap

I cleaned the PCB of the floppy drive with isopropyl alcohol and cut the legs of the new capacitors a little bit more and now it turns on with the floppy drive connected. Hopefully it now boots from hard drive too. But can still someone share me the capacitor values of the floppy drive? I just...
