i’ve found a capacitor on the back (c60) that is broken in half. will replace it the next week. it’s only a bypass capacitor but it’s very suspicious.

update… the second one had a broken via, its now fixed

maybe @techknight @SuperSVGA have already seen some portables with these symptoms? The first one is a mistery. I suspect it’s the hybrid since it started to work for some days and then after i -miserably- tried to boot via the floppy reader it went black again.

I’d add that on the third one the area between the video - 68HC and misc glu ics gets a bit warmer than the rest.

Hello there, i’ve three mac portable that don’t work correctly. both three have been recapped. the first one was initially working, then i’ve tried it after some years and it wasn’t anymore… after some reboots i’ve managed to make it boot but crashed when a sound was played, then after some days...

so I just cleaned another time the board and nada, It playes audio 1 out of 10/15 times, I'm starting to hypotize that it could be an hybrid issue, playing audio drains pretty much current from the battery and this plus a faulty hybrid makes the computer to crash/reboot

i’ve already used tons of deoxit and ipa… are there some pins to check for shorts? thanks!

thanks for the answers, i managed to make it boot the other day but I’ve discovered while using it that it has a very annoying issue… every time a sound is played (ie when i change the volume or open a game) the mac crashes and reboots! what could it be? i’m guessing some sort of corrosion /...

Well, it could be some leakage, although I don't believe the through-holes in these usually leak, but I may be wrong. It's the surface-mounted trash can caps that go on these. Yeah, for sure =)

That’s not white, it’s a light effect, it seems like glue or something like that. Yup, I’ve seen that c18 and 19 are the main killers on these motherboards
