I got really bored in the Covid lockdown and got it working after a few hours on macos9lives.com Mainly open firmware commands. Main annoyance was no sounds unless you plug in headphones but also no sleep They do make a wonderful macos 9 machine!

My 540c power adapter just died :-( So I need to build one of these. Question: does this solution - using a 16v adapter from a PC laptop with the orange and red (VMAIN and VBATT) wired to positive - allow the battery to charge when the laptop is sleeping or off, as the OEM one would do?

I just find it so irritating that Apple hobble their machines with this inability to upgrade / expand. It must be purely a commercial thing but it goes against every engineering and sustainability principle. One wonders how rich the company feels it needs to be before they can do the right thing

2nd hand yes. Funnily enough replacing a PB100 which was a great mac too. Macs were so expensive back then, I could never have bought new

A PowerBook 180 saw me through my undergraduate degree at Bristol University 1995-98. I have a big soft spot for those macs. Used to run Corel WordPerfect which was a great piece of software.

I would love to access email on a classic device but it seems impossible now even with a proxy device like a pi running stunnel
