    Yes, I agree, probably that or worse, heads stuck in the platters. Remove the cover and have a look, probably a chance to revive the drive.

    Fault code starting with 02 is a memory issue i agree, maybe a missing trace or broken one (a bridge also can be a cause)

    Can be a 1N40xx series diode ? 1N4008 or 1N4148 fairly common diodes.

    Not an Apple IIgs guy myself, but yes the ROM 3 has a battery in a socket, where the previous was soldered.

    Let us know if you were able to repair it. I had 0 luck with mines, and most of the time the Analog Board and peripherals are also contaminated by the acid from the battery, so the HD and drive are all bad (more or less)

    Yes, broken gear, the small gear is made from a softer material than the rest, and is driven directly by the metal gear from the motor. easy to repair really.

    I agree with mikes-macs, hopefully you can get it working again, but I have had no luck so far with mines, and they were less damaged. The Mac SE is far more reliable, and can be repaired far more easily.

    Yes you are right, both parts of the head should not be disassembled. The head has been probably lifted and is not coming back in contact with the disk anymore. On the back of the head, you have a small spring, you can try moving the spring around to clamp it closer, but it's hit or miss.
