The chips are expensive; from UT source I spent around $100 all in ( with shipping) for 64 chips - KM41C16000CK were at around $1 per chip. The caps and boards were about $50 all in to include the stencil — from jlcpcb. This was in April. At bit higher for the chips now. Still a fun project.

Any resolution of this, mine is fading as well as I use it.... it starts fine, can use the screen but over a few minutes it starts to turn darker and fade to an unusable amount.
Trying to figure this out. Lots of random boot errors (sad Mac).
I am borrowing an oscilloscope...I am not an expert by any means... but probing the 5V rail there is a lot of noise...
Wondering if it is the Hybrid module? I used Androda's check of the connections before getting a hybrid...
New to me Macintosh Portable -- not recently working, bought it off someone on Facebook marketplace. Cap goo noted; and recapped. Booted with battery via the J17. Good chime but then error code on screen; 0300172C/ 0001FFA -- did find a broken trace near C15 (there was a post on this forum; same...
@Juror22
I'm a new Mac Portable owner; just recapped mine -- unclear when the last time it worked. I just went straight to recapping as there was some evidence of cap goo impact. With the board bare, and power supplied while shorting the keyboard input, I get and initial good chime and then...
@jmacz
I ordered clear plastic for the LED from JLCPCB and installed it with the slot piece that I printed myself.
Wired it up to my BlueSCSI and looks great.
Thanks.
@jmacz looking for the solutions for the IIfx front bezel for the second floppy bay.
Do you have a 3D print that has the LED hole?
Also do you have the print for the mounting inside the case that you used for your BlueSCSI or the like?
You said something about a clear pipe to get the LED to...
Actually, I used hot air and worked well.
Things I learned:
A) I set the hot air to 360 and flow at 30, worked great at about 4-5 cm above chips.
B) I first tried to use hot air for all the components, but the capacitors blew off… I therefore moved to soldering them by hand. I have a...
Well the journey to create 16 MB SIMMS was successful.... now at 128 MB in the IIfx.
Used the above git and printed at JLCPCB with a stencil (make sure the 1.2 mm size is selected on the board options) -- worked great. Just used a credit card to spread the paste.
Used the SAMSUNG...
Opened up the case again this morning. Easier fix -- the CN1 connection from the main board was not connected -- oops.... I'm going to say it became dislodged.
Working great now with full passthrough and soft power.
Thanks for all the help. Fully functional IIfx restored to its glory.
