Macintosh II, Logic Board 820-0163-03 630-0140 SIM SIMM Memory Slot Connecter Replacements?

This looks great - congratulations! I also have a dead IIci with the good metal clips, and a happy but plasticy SE/30, maybe I should do the old switcheroo 😄

    Getting started

I'm really excited for you, using a compact mac is such a cool experience and the SE is a great one 😄 The #1 quality of life improvement you can invest in is some kind of SD based hard drive solution - it completely solves the problem of "how to get stuff on to your mac". You can then use an...

Power Mac 6100 PSU Dyna Comp. DCF 803

I've been very lucky with PSUs and machines in general, I've only had one bad Q610/PM6100 style PSU and it was dead when I got it. I have a project to fit a Meanwell RPT-160B in the housing since it outputs sufficient amps and fits with room to spare for the original fuse and switch. I'm using...

    Getting started

Ooh I just remembered that the SE is also more compatible with older software than the SE/30, especially games! Anything from trivial stuff like the torches in Beyond Dark Castle not animating correctly, to full on crashes on load (affects plenty of early games).

    Getting started

+1 for the SE as a starting machine if you're not going for a pizza box. Main reason from my POV beyond what others have said is: - they have ADB, so much easier to get mouse and keyboard than for the Mac Plus. And they will be compatible with a bunch of other macs if you do decide to expand the...

    6100 ATX PSU possible?

I am pretty sure the MeanWell RPT-160B will work - it exceeds the specs and fits neatly inside the original chassis. Plus that PSU doesn't use soft power so there is no need for sophisticated controls. I can't 100% confirm it works yet though because my project is still WIP! I have functioning...

Power Mac 6100/66 DOS Compatible Card Feckgoofery

I also have the same issue if I try to connect the video output to my flatscreen - it gives me this helpful feedback! Luckily it works fine with my CRTs

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

Oh! I meant "naked" as in "no accelerator" - I will of course have the heatsink on, and probably a 40mm fan jammed into it 😅

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

I don't think so, there was no overheating fron my measurements and no performance issues so I am assuming it's fine.

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

With a G3 accelerator on a 7100/80 board, there does not seem to be the need for additional cooling. After an hour of quake the temp was 41 degrees C. Will test with the naked 80MHz PPC 601 at some point.

    Alternative cases for 475

If you want to check out a well executed 3D printable bracket for the blueSCSI, I am a big fan of this one: https://www.printables.com/model/661675-desktop-bluescsi-v2-mount-for-board-revision-20231 There's plenty of good options but I use this one a lot because: - it lines up with and screws...

    Alternative cases for 475

There's two different LC cases - one has a plastic assembly for the fan and the speaker, and the other the speaker and fan clipping in separately. The one with the plastic assembly has the case opening for the fan placed farther back which means the LC475 board would oartially block it, and the...

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

I've just received a large collection of IIcx/IIcis and machines with compatible logic boards. Both the Quadra 650 and Quadra 800 logic boards will fit in the Quadra 700 case, unmodified, and are directly compatible with the PSU. This is just a drop-in replacement. The Power Macintosh 7100 will...

Questions about Power Mac 6100 Maintenance and Preservation

There's an adapter you can use to piggyback into the molex connectors for the hard drive and CD-ROM coming off of the power supply that lets you power any extra fans you want to add - I think I'm using a set I got with some Noctua fans like this: https://www.noctua.at/en/products/na-sac1 If you...

Questions about Power Mac 6100 Maintenance and Preservation

First off - congratulations! These are great machines that are a lot of fun to work with. In order to preserve the tabs at the back, I would recommend dremeling off the little plastic hook that locks it on to the lower case. Yes it's destructive but it means you will not snap the tabs. If you...

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

You mentioned a G3+HPV upgrade for one of them - did you find a way to run the G3+HOV combo with the lid closed? I tried but the passthrough ribbon that connects the G3 to the HPV sticks out too far so I couldn't close it up!

Quadra 700 Mainboard in IIcx case ...

It should fit, I put a 7100 board in a IIci case and it works great, lines up with the PSU and everything. You need to dremel some room in the back for ports though, since they are different between the IIcx/i and the Q650/700. You can even trim the plastic around the lock tab (circled in pink)...

    Power Macintosh 7200/90 L2 Cache

Ha that's right! Hope the Adjustable Keyboard and the HPV card is still working - I hadn't recapped it iirc 😅 I saw a PCI firewire card btw which should work? seemed reasonable - https://www.finn.no/recommerce/forsale/item/454291512

The G4 QS boots OS9 natively as well, so you don't have to use OSX if you don't want to 😄
