imo, no LC pizzaboxes should be powered on without a full service of the board and power supply. they're all various degrees of broken without that.

those aren't "missing", they're not populated on that board. look, you can see a jumper placed on the lower 2 holes of the DIP footprint.

agree with @croissantking when i encounter a drive with stiction like that I generally hook it up to a Zulu-Compatible SCSI emulator in Initiator mode, free the platter, and it starts imaging it right away. then it goes into the scrap pile :)

you don't mention what the security looks like, or when it triggers. is this a boot message? have you wiped the disk completely when installing other OS versions? this is a rather vague issue and does not really prove anything. that sounds more like disk corruption to me. there are no firmware...

evaporust will get the corrosion off, but will also strip the coating... meaning it'll oxidize again. a clear or zinc coat will prevent that.
