Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

My crystals arrived, ordered off eBay. Doing the trick @obsolete described as I could only find through-hole 50MHz crystals, I ordered some SMD 48MHz to cannibalize. Links below. Progression of stealing the plastic base from a SMD 48MHz crystal on the top and adding it to a through-hole 50MHz...

Found the 50MHz bus switch on Alchemy (5400/6400)

This is really cool! I'm thinking about trying this on my Performa 6360/160 and/or a 6400/? logic board I need to test... I think I get the resistor changes, restating: Remove the R95 2k Ohm resistor, marked "202" and add a 10k Ohm resistor, marked "103" to R94. (Neat SMD resistor...

    Quadra 840AV speaker connector

I think what you are looking for is 2695 connector series terminals, described here but probably available through Mouser, etc: https://www.hoohawirecable.com/product/en/Product-molex-KK-2695-series-connector-custom-wire-harness-assembly.html This doc on the plastic part...

Anyone here use a PowerBook 150 with a CompactFlash card?

Yeah, mine is the combination of the best parts from two PB 150s… and reinforcing JB Weld epoxy around the standoffs…

Anyone here use a PowerBook 150 with a CompactFlash card?

Interesting, I never tried that since was able to find a CF card that the 150 format utility, "Internal HD Format", was able to work with: Transcend CompactFlash ULTRA 2GB Industrial I had first tried with 512MB SanDisk and 1GB Kingston neither of which would work with the utility although I...

    Restoration CD for market software

I think these restore images are pretty cool. What did your retro Mac actually come from the factory with vs. the Legacy Restore CD that can just give you the base OS for your retro Mac? While perhaps less interesting then the "Restoration CD for Market Software Series", which I think is all...

    Restoration CD for market software

I see the Volume 2 & 3 Restoration CDs for Market Software are on Macintosh Garden: https://macintoshgarden.org/apps/apple-restoration-cd-market-software-series-june-1994 @Realitystorm Sounds like you are saying you can't find Volume 6 anywhere but are any of the others available somewhere?

    Internal BlueSCSI and Wallstreet

So I need to make a correction, the Ableconn mSata to IDE adapter does work in a Lombard! My mistake was not double checking the jumper, like many other Macs of this generation IDE hard disks need to be set to Master, which for this adapter is nothing connected/no jumpers on either 45-46 or...

    Internal BlueSCSI and Wallstreet

Yeah, In my test above I clicked "Ignore" after inserting a blank CD-R into my USB attached Apple Super Drive before running that command in the Terminal app to burn the .toast file to CD. I think the "hdiutil" command line utility must look for an unmounted burnable CD in an attached CD-R/W...

On this advice I picked up this 16GB Yansen IDE SSD and it works well in my Lombard :) Thanks! Yansen 16GB 2.5-inch PATA/IDE 44-Pin SSD Solid State Disk (MLC Flash) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZWRJC72

Actually I can't seem to get Disk Utility (macOS Sonoma 14.7.1 on M1 MacBoon Pro) to open that image. Just a brief flash of something appearing and disappearing in the volumes list. :-/ However the command line tool still works: user_id@MacBook-Pro-M1 ~ % hdiutil burn...

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to use Disk Utility on an Apple Silicon Mac to burn an ISO on a CD in a USB attached SuperDrive. Mac OS 9 cd images on Macintosh Garden

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

Why does it offend you so much that anyone could find this useful? I don't get it. I totally agree it's completely non-compliant with how Ethernet devices are required to have unique MAC address. And it's not like anyone is arguing that it would not be better if every unit had a unique MAC...

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

Yeah, it kinda is... This limitation is clearly stated on the page and this is a hobbyist niche product. Just don't buy it if it bothers you, there are plenty of folks that will be glad to live with this limitation and if it ends up in some future hands that person can google and find about...

Tech by Androda Comm slot ethernet card

I guess you are out of luck, you can't have two devices with the same MAC address on the same network. Don't think this is a problem for most folks but I guess if you are trying to outfit a lab or something it could be. Definitely glad this is out there even with this limitation vs. not out...

I haven't found an IDE mSATA adapter and card that will work in my Lombard, including that Ableconn that I use successfully in my 3400, Pismo, iBook G4 and Mac mini G4. There has got to be something about the IDE controllers used in the generation of machines between the 3400 and the Pismo...

Finally found my white whale, a decent 5400/200

I recall my high school computer science teacher getting a 5300/100 in 1995 when we were learning to program in his class using Turbo Pascal on Classic II's. We were all amazed. I'd love to find a reasonable 5400 (dreamworld be a black 5500)
