The amount of RAM you give to Photoshop also helps as it will not use the drive for storing temporary data. On system 7, I give 60MB to Photoshop and it feels a lot smoother than on 6.0.8 where it only has 8MB of RAM.

The lag very much depends on your canvas size, brush size and the way you draw your strokes. If you do continuous big circles on a large canvas, there will be some lag. If you do small strokes with a small brush, lag is a lot less noticeable. I adapt my workflow based on that. I first draw my...

Made on a Mac IIfx with Photoshop 2.5.1 under System 6.0.8 The first drawing I made with my newly acquired IIfx last year. No layers and only 640x480, quite limited by the amount of RAM under System 6.

I have been using and loving my 9500 for the last 27 years (mainly for graphics design). I am so used to it, I cannot be objective anyway! 😅

I agree it can be a pain when you want to manipulate the RAM (which you don't do that often when it's maxed out). However, you don't have to go through this process to access the PCI or processor ports. The plastics retaining the PCI cards are a pain though and I agree this is deffinitely a bad...

I agree, the IIci design fits pretty well with the design of the big box IIs and SE/30. It was all looking like a very coherent line of powerful computers implementing the same design. That said, beauty is very subjective. @jmacz 's 8500 has a fast G3 CPU and 1GB RAM (in 1995!). I believe the...

I would say the same! If there could be 6, I would keep the SE because a 68000 can read some very early software that no later CPU can read. if there could be 7, I would keep the Quadra 700 because 68040 @50Mhz! And I love its small tower form factor. Such a great collection you have anyway...

A Power Mac 8500 with a 500Mhz G3, enough RAM and a fast enough drive is a killer video capture and editing machine under System 7! It can easily digitize SD videos at full size and full frame rate. I would keep!

@Phipli I have tried Painter but it lacks a good layer engine. For this kind of drawing, I like doing draft, line art and colors on different layers. I always come back to Photoshop. @flexo, I use a Wacom Digitizer II tablet.

That's because Photoshop is raster not vector drawing. It lets me draw naturally, just like drawing on paper with pen pressure transparency and thickness. This is how I like drawing.

I would say monochromatic cartoon drawing with some anime/manga influence. I watched a lot of Japanese animation as a kid so my drawings will tend to reproduce anime and manga style.

Made on a Mac IIfx with Photoshop 3.0. I had posted this one on a another thread in this forum but I thought that my profile is the right place to store the art that I make with old Macs.

I pushed the IIfx close to its limits with this drawing. It is a 1920x1440 image with 6 active layers, some with masks and composition modes. It resulted in an 8MB file using 50MB of RAM when loaded. Saving it takes about 1 minute. However, with the right workflow it remained nice to work with.

    PowerBook 180 won't boot

@A24A I am using the original power adapter. it gives the 7.5 V and it doesn't seem to have an issue. It is working fine with my PowerBook 145. Regarding the DC socket on the motherboard, I thought I would de-solder with the soldering iron slowly pushing each legs one by one but that was a very...

    PowerBook 180 won't boot

This evening I tried to replace the DC power socket and removing the old one was a total disaster! It was very difficult and I ended up ruining 2 of the 3 pads. The metal is still there but I may have been heating too much or pulling too hard, it became lose and there is no more continuity. I...

    PowerBook 180 won't boot

Thanks for the input @GRudolf94 ! I will check about the programmer switch. I tried to do a reset yesterday with both switches and I could feel the buttons working correctly when pressing and releasing them. Also, while I did not ground myself, I am not in a room subject to static buildup and I...

    PowerBook 180 won't boot

Thanks for your reply @A24A ! I have tried removing the BlueSCSI but the laptop doesn't go past the state of searching for a bootable device. The screen doesn't display anything. It remains dark. When the crash happened, I realize that there was something on my desk, that I pushed behind the...
