This is normal. They don’t have a shutdown mode and keep draining battery. The lead acid battery is meant to be kept on float charge. You can remove the battery if you want to store it longer term but you’ll want to pull the 9V too

I stole 8 GB from a mac mini and replaced the battery, and installed Mavericks and Momiji. This is posted from Momiji! The C2D is kinda pokey in this thing, sadly…maybe back to Snow Leopard and PowerFox.

It's weird that Mac OS X would boot at all with it set incorrectly. Cubes are weird.

I don't recall the full details, but I think eventually I had to get a IDE->SATA with a master/slave jumper and set it correctly. Many of them just use cable select which the Cube doesn't like? (Or is it the other way around?) The easiest way to rule that issue out is just to remove the DVD and...

I have had very long flashing question mark on the Cube when I had an IDE conflict between the SSD and DVD. But that would not explain Mac OS X booting quickly, would it.

Ah, that's a shame. Seems like a logic board is the next try, hopefully it's not some issue with the connector the logic board plugs into. If there is no chime, how do you know it is resetting PRAM?

Pull the L2 G3, all but one stick of ram, all the PCI cards, etc. If it boots, start adding things back in to narrow down the problem.

Whether to use these machines should be a personal decision, but posting their outputs to a hobby website and saying you made them(!) is fair game for debate. I would at the very least like to see a tag here like in the trading post titles.
