  • My first semi-successful attempt with a C cross toolchain for Lisa

    Note: AI tools have been used as part of this work. I know that's a red flag for some, and I fully respect that.
    Emulated PM 7500 and Voodoo2 with Quake (in the browser)

    reckn you can emulate a Apple PC/DOS Compatibility Card?

    It can probably be done, but I cannot remember seeing any technical/developer documentation re. the PC/DOS cards - if I remember correctly they did have some tighter integration with the Mac itself (sharing hd, keyboard, etc. - perhaps even memory...)

    Not applicable to emulation, but for people with real hardware : It is possible to flash the 24AC firmware onto a Radius PrecisionColor 24X or 24XK. Using 1152x870 on an XK will be an overclock on the RAMDAC if it doesn't have a 110MHz part fitted, but if you fit a heatsink it will probably be fine (at your own risk) and it means even if you decide not to use 1152x870, it will give you compatibility with the apple driver and PowerPCs if you're card started with Radius firmware older than version 2.
    Emulating 840AV's video digitizer (i.e. emulated 840AV with working live video input)

    OK, so the video capture card handles both video encoding and decoding? Re: Voice Recognition-that's hard. I remember working on a Samsung Symbian OS phone in the mid 2000s which supposedly had voice recognition on its 300MHz ARM11 CPU, but in fact responded to every phrase with: "Did you say «murf, smurf, mmmerrff»?"

    [Ours didn't get released, but a successor did: https://www.mobile-review.com/review/samsung-g810-en.shtml ]

    The video path in the demo above decode-only: the two on-board Philips chips take analog in and produce digital out, while TV encoding on the 840AV is a separate chip that I haven't emulated yet.

    The voice recognition I have in mind is ~10 years older (and probably much more primitive) than the Samsung G810 - I'm trying to get my emulated 840AV up and running with Apple "PlainTalk" voice recognition (it was powered by the DSP3210). I'm getting a lot of «murf, smurf, mmmerrff» right now :-)

    @PappaDF . Of course, another obvious use for the DSP is to implement a synthesiser. A Basic FM operator is: Op[x]=Sine[((phase[x]+=Freq[x])+Op[Mod[x]])>>25]*Vol[x]. I think a DSP3210 at 66MHz (16.5 MIPS) could manage about 1M operators/s. That's 22 operators at 44kHz, enough for a OPL 2 work-alike (18 operators). If the 68040 could support another 10 operators the Q840AV could emulate a 4-op x 8 note poly synth (like a DX-21).
    Emulating 840AV (without ROM patches, in the browser)

    Extending the scope of my small emulator project. The DSP3210 is just a stub for now (enough to let it boot) and still a work in progress. Let's see how far I can push this.
    Nostalgia! It’s probably 25 years since I last played Marathon - now on emulated IIfx with 8•24GC.

    The frame rate is better than I expected, especially considering the emulator is running in Chrome on an M1 Mac mini. Mouse movement is choppy, though, and feels overly accelerated.

    And I definitely need to improve my gameplay!

    There also seems to be a frame-rate cap of around 30 fps in the game, even though the emulator has enough headroom to run faster. Does anyone know whether this can be configured in the game?
