Mac OS on ANS - Modding a ROM DIMM

From the tinkerdifferent forums, from "classic has class" "It's not understood right now why it doesn't properly handle the cache. Repeatedly flashing the ROMs to test guesses isn't anyone's idea of a good time. I don't think this can be easily solved until we get the ANS emulated, which I know...

Mac OS on ANS - Modding a ROM DIMM

Im sure this is reasonably trivial for some of the folk here, but i think the biggest issue with doing that currently, is that no one has a rom sim that has hotswappable chips yet. along with most people not having the specifc programmer or whatver. In other words, the ability to program a chip...

Mac OS on ANS - Modding a ROM DIMM

So as per the tinker different fourm post, and my own findings, the prepro roms (1.1.20.1) will be better for speed, than the 2.0, because the 2.0 roms dont address cache properly. That being said the 2.0 rom is much more stable, and makes the internal scsi, internal gpu, and internal...

My attempt at an ANS ROM

I tried the 70si chips, a tad early to tell, i need to de-solder, and reflash again to be 100% sure as the first rom i did experienced similar issues, but i think they MAY not work, gon test more tn but thats my 2c. Why it wouldnt work when the rom i orginally had, had 95ns chips, idrk. Coulda...

My attempt at an ANS ROM

Haha, I actually intend to grab a I-ram or i-disk or whatever PCI ram storage card thing, to use as swap. (Really good random read n writes, so I think it'll be perfect as swap) I then intend to TRY to run a gui. I'm sure that'll be hell.

My attempt at an ANS ROM

Im actually making a website that will host literally everything I know, Including how to install various OSs. I used just bootX with Debian 8 CD lol. Just followed the bootX instructions. The install took literally 2 full days. Useable tho, installs things slow, but for my purpose (hosting...

My attempt at an ANS ROM

Thanks for the tips, I'm gonna make another rom or two this weekend with the 70sc chips when they arrive. Yeah, defo get whatever version is the most available, I also doubt there is much of a difference but just in case. Afaik only the beige g3 does 3.3v instead of 5v, but I could very much...

    ANS linux

Hello all, Just curious as to if anyone has ANY idea as to how to install any sort of Linux onto the ANS. I have the Mac OS rom, and intend to see if bootX will do anything, but what I cannot ignore is how there are mentions everywhere of the ANS being able to boot some form on Linux aside...

Mac OS on ANS - Modding a ROM DIMM

Ya know I was thinking the other day about if the normal Mac style processor cards would work, this definitely tells me it wouldn't just be plug n play hahah. If you ever get a more modern design made, definitely let us know, wouldn't mind using a 400mhz card haha!!

My attempt at an ANS ROM

Hello all, first of all, wanted to give the biggest shoutout to @Big Ben for doing literally doing everything regarding modding the 7100 rom, and of course a huge shoutout to all who found the ROMS and got em uploaded for the community to make use of. I would like to kind of recreate big bens...

    Apple Network Server AIX

Yeah I found their server like an hour after reading this, I tried it B4 and thought it was down before I realized it was a gopher. The guy who runs it is very nice, just a head up, you're gonna copy from it, they ask you do it v slowly and just grab whatcha need.
