Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

Just a little side note I didn't realize earlier about my previous comment: - System 7.5.5 on 68k needs also boot 3 from DT 8.1 PPC, not any other boot 3; - System 7.5.5 on PPC needs boot 3 from either Mac OS 8.1 or DT 8.1 PPC. For keeping the System HFS+ functionality "universal" across PPC...

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

I was finally able to boot System 7 on the 1.5 GHz mini from USB via the GUI bootpicker. These patches are awesome! Thank you for providing them. Unfortunately, I couldn't get it to work directly from OF alone. This is what I tried and how I was able to get the mini to boot: - I changed the...

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Yeah, I made sure both of my partitions had each System 7.5.5 for that reason. So my issue is a bit different, still. But that reminded me I forgot to mention one more thing: The mini has 2 USB slots. I use the slot that is next to the FireWire 400 port. Could it be this script will only work...

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

Well, I tried it, everything went according to the script, in that printenv reveals that fcode-debug?, use-nvramrc? etc. were set to true and all else is configured as per the script... ... But I don't see my blessed System 7.5.5 folder in either of my two partitions from my USB stick from the...

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

Well, I was able to boot System 7.5.5 from an HFS+ partition, but any other HFS+ partition could not be mounted. I also see no option to format partitions to HFS+, but only to "HFS Standard" or "DOS" (rather than the dual "HFS Standard" you guys were getting, maybe because a STR# or TEXT...

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

What about some of the other resources that we see mentioned in the Python script, like the "STR#" ones so that certain text strings display what they should? Or are strings etc. all displaying the correct stuff by leaving them only on the System file? Also did anyone test System 7.5.3 at all...

updated firmware for new world ppc32 macs that allows booting from usb from the boot picker

For those without or avoiding OS X, is there a way to, say, save this to a text file as Forth script, give it a Forth-related TYPE code, put the file in the root of, say, a Mac OS 9 partition, then from OF invoke the file/script?

System 7 (and OS 8) natively boots on the Mac mini G4!

My mini boots 8.1 normally off an HFS+ partition. I did it over FireWire, but I'd expect it to be the same via the internal drive, as well. I just re-tested this to be sure. It would be weird if it didn't! I assume something must have been amiss when you tried it? All PowerPC Macs can boot...

Backporting HFS+ to Mac OS 8.0 and earlier

I have a slightly different question: has anyone here tried keeping ALL of the HFS+-related patches exclusively to a System Enabler and/or Mac OS ROM file that does nothing but enable HFS+? Either a tbxi (Mac OS ROM type) or gbly (System Enabler type) file would do... as long as they can be...

Tips for Upgrading a Mac mini G4 for Mac OS 9 Use

Switching out from System 7.5 to OS X 10.6.8 (retail kernel, slightly patched for PPC) now. :)

System 7 (and OS 8) natively boots on the Mac mini G4!

Thanks @MBongo for making the thread, I was finally able to get past the registration and login duration woes here, so now I'm finally able to participate here, as well. (Just not from native Mac OS, as the website causes the browser, and even OS, to crash on Classilla, despite Crypto Ancienne...
