I just got done installing a ROMSHIMM in both of SE/30s and again these make all the difference. The creative people in the Retro computing community never cease to amaze me. Just one more thing that makes this hobby so much fun and rewarding!
There is now finally a solution for ROM SIMMs such as the ROM-inator II that are too thin to fit snugly in a ROM SIMM socket. A ROMSHIMM from Jurassic Computing on Tindie. I got one of these and it works great in my IIfx with a ROM-inator II. It should work in a SE/30 too...
Can you have another set of SIMMDoublers in Bank B for a total of 32MB? I do have the IIx ROM upgrade, so I believe that will work. If so and another set of SIMMDoublers comes along, I may try that.
I just picked up 4 MicroMac SIMMDoubler modules and was finally able to update my Macintosh II to 20MB (4x4MB Bank A) (4x1MB Bank B). I have 8x4MB PAL SIMMs, but I could not get them to work in my Macintosh II. I just think they do not make good contact in the SIMM sockets. They tested fine a...
It turns out is actually a Mac II adapter and not the IIx, so I am going to move forward with installing it in my Mac II with a Daystar PowerCache 50MHz accelerator.
I am putting this post in this section as that will become apparent in just a bit. I am fortunate enough to have both a 33MHz & 40MHz Daystar Turbo 040 accelerator. These are the later models with the 128K cache already onboard. They both have the v4.11 ROM. I have the 40MHz 040 in a IIci. I...
The interesting thing is the FPU scores in Norton SI 3.5. The Interware Booster is quite a bit faster. I am not quite sure what would cause this, but I ran it twice to be sure the score was correct.
Next up the Diimo 030 50MHz. The pictures from left to right are the accelerator front, back, Norton SI 3.5 CPU, Norton SI 3.5 FPU, SpeedOMeter 3.23 and SpeedOMeter 4.02.
Last year I picked up an Interware Booster 50MHz accelerator for my Macintosh LC III. I have now gotten a Diimo 030 50MHz accelerator clone designed by max1zzz. I thought it would be interesting to see how well these benchmark against each other. First up the Interware Booster 50MHz. The...
Let me just chime in and I have the exact same artifact behavior in monochrome mode with my Rev A 8.24 GC. As I run mosty 256 colors, I have just learned to live with it.
It seemed pretty secure when I checked that. I just think the thinner PCB is most likely the issue. I may try thickening the metal contacts with some solder.
