What is the technical reason why DDP AppleTalk doesn't work with WiFi?

Sorry to butt into a topic I know very little about and I doubt this really adds much. But I finally got my Powerbook G3 Pismo connected via wifi on Mac OS9 - (OrinicoGold PCMCIA card using Airtalk native drivers). It's connected via WEP (I'm quite rural) to a WRT54GSv1 running DD-WRT (latest...

Problems with Quadra 610 ; Dead Board and Unusual PSU

My first (and only) recap of a logic board was a Quadra 610. Now it's working pretty well and I (still) have not yet recapped the PSU (although it's an Astec one). Unfortunately I'm afraid I have nothing really too helpful to add but I would say: It does not need a PRAM battery to boot. Once...

Powerbook G3 Pismo does not recognise Belkin F5D7011card with Broadcom chipset.

I went and got a Belkin F5D6020 from that list. Unfortunately, as luck would have it, there are two versions of the card. Only v1 is supported and guess which one I bought? :-) Oh well, it was very cheap! I tried the MacSense and the IOXperts drivers and neither of them support it either!

Powerbook G3 Pismo does not recognise Belkin F5D7011card with Broadcom chipset.

Great idea. I haven't connected to Hotline servers that much at all. Amusingly I connected to the hotline.macos9lives.com server yesterday to check if there were any airport drivers/extensions that I was missing. But that was the first time for a long time. For chatting which servers would you...

Powerbook G3 Pismo does not recognise Belkin F5D7011card with Broadcom chipset.

Thanks. Will have a look for one. Now that the Pismo has battery power (rebuilt battery pack giving five hrs +) my aim is to sit on the sofa and "do something online!". Not quite sure what that "something" is, but hey it's a great objective for this retro Mac hobby!

Powerbook G3 Pismo does not recognise Belkin F5D7011card with Broadcom chipset.

I could not find v1351, however, I did find the UK version F5D7010uk - v1314uk . I guessed such a minor version bump was mainly due to geographic variations. Plus I found this old Apple forums post saying it worked for them. Unfortunately under Mac OS9 Airport just does not see the card...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

So another update. After getting it charging again the capacity was shown as just 236mAh. I was a little too nervous about letting it run down until it powered off, so I fully charged then booted the OSX Tiger installer again and let the voltage go down to 9.5v (previously it died at 9.0v). I...

Powerbook G3 Pismo does not recognise Belkin F5D7011card with Broadcom chipset.

Now I've got the battery pack of my Powerbook G3 Pismo rebuilt and working I need to get wifi working! I looked at the price of non-extreme Aircard on ebay and they seem really high! So I looked for third party cards. From a few posts it seems that Belkin F5D7010 with Broadcom chipsets are well...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

Absolutely :) It's all my fault for being too impatient of course. This retro Mac hobby has many lows when stuff fails, but the excitement you get when you fix something and get it working again more than makes up for those!

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

On a whim I took the battery pack apart and desoldered the +ve lead, hoping to reset it! I left it for 30 mins or so. Then resoldered, assembled the pack and reinserted into the Powerbook. Whaddayaknow! The LED on the battery pack flashed and it was recognised and started charging. I'd left it...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

I took the battery pack apart and checked the voltages. The three sets of batteries are each giving 3.1v. The overall voltage of the pack is 9.4. I'm guessing that the discharge is too deep and the BMS has locked the pack from being charged. Whoops! I'm guessing that even if I replace these nine...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

However, after that rebuild I'm afraid I messed up and discharged the newly rebuilt battery too much and now it refuses to charge! After repacking the battery I got it into the Pismo fine. I put it on charge for 30 mins then booted from it. But it when I removed the power it would only run for...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

That's the main thread I followed! Thanks for all that. I would add that I really recommend the FNIRSI SWM-10 spot welder. This is a lovely piece of kit and both easy and a pleasure to use! It's available online in the UK from about £35/£40. Also I watched videos of 18650 batteries on fire to...

Battery Status LED not showing after rebuilding Powerbook G3 Pismo battery

...and after a repack the battery inserts OK and now charges, and after ten mins of charge it will run the Pismo for a little bit. But wary so far of leaving it charging for longer. But I guess I should relax a little now :)
