I am trying to remember back in those days with PowerBook 1400 that I used to have - I cannot remember what the battery was like.
Ive rebuilt 2 Batteries packs for 1400, one wihe 4/3 batteries and 17670 batteries which is almost the same size as 4/3 batteries.
Ok - I have been using it and...
I am using Q800 in Q700 case with Q700 PSU - no issues at all, also have Nubus and DOS Compatible card in it too.
Currently has 64mb RAM and full VRAM, wide SCSI etc.

A few years ago (about 7-8 years ago) I was given a box with about 7 Powerbook 1400s half of it was either damaged or in pieces. I managed to get 7 into 5 working units. I believe I sold 2 off - I can't quite remember - among to the ones I sold I know I sold 133mhz and 117mhz as well.
Anyway I...
I'd open up and see whats going on..
I have noticed poor connection on DC_DC board causing sudden power off - so you would need to open up anyway

Last year I finally got around to rebuild my 1400/166 which has Sonnet G3 466mhz in it.
Rebuilt the batteries with 17670 batteries (which is close same size as 4/3 batteries but slightly bigger but it fits)- spot weld them up - works well.
Rebuilt pram batteries - its a pain, if you walk away...
I do have G4 MDD - originally its FW400 model, with FW800 1.4ghz CPU & Copper Heatsink on it, with Sonnet SATA card with SSD attached to it - its a quite quick mac - which is why I hadn't done Sonnet upgrade.
Yes it does boot into OS9 with Sonnet from what I know.
