Hey Everybody! I know I have sort of put this "out of the way" here on the announcements forum, but I figured that as an announcement, that's approximately where it should be.

Today (well, yesterday as of this actual writing) some very unfortunate events have unfolded in Tucson, Arizona. A well-known US politician had built and publicized a hit list of other politicians, and then advertised it to their followers on some social networking sites.

This probably seems innocent, but potentially as a result of this, several people have died in a shooting incident.

What does this have to do with old Macs? Not much, but I have seen a lot of a pretty specific attitude on the Internet lately, and a lot of it even right here on our home of 68kmla.org as well as the #68kMLA IRC channel on freenode. This attitude? It's the attitude that life isn't worth anything.

Tonight in the IRC channel, a commenter had posted that theywould be glad for some people to "get what's coming to them," in a situation that involved some gun shots that were heard in his local area, implying, and even directly stating that they would feel happy for the persons involved in the gunshot altercation to come to death. This was after the same person had been discussing people who are overweight in a fairly disparaging manner, as if to indicate that they also are worth less.

That kind of behavior is abhorrent and unacceptable.

This type of attitude just won't be tolerated on that IRC channel and on this forum. Nobody here is better than anybody else. Your life has no more (or less) value than any other, and any implications to another end... won't be tolerated.

Indications of this will be met with forum warnings, and pretty quick banning or temporary banning.

Nobody should have to go on the Internet and hear this kind of stuff.

EDIT: If you have any questions on this matter, please feel free to contact myself or another administrator or moderator.

Couldn't agree more! Far too often people get flamed, their intelligence or background belittled, for posting legitimate or innocent questions/comments on far too many sites, though not so often on this site.

Whoops -- I'd thought I'd locked this. (I wonder if it's different in every forum, I'll have to check that.)
