Kablamo. locked up and hangs on boot. :disapprove:

Now seeing if I can clone it, if not, not a big deal I hadn't set up a whole lot on it yet. All the important data is safe on other drives :)

Yeah, when I was setting up the server(lappy was closed) it felt like I was on a typewriter... A broken one with no paper coming out :p . also used the closed lappy as a mouse pad heh.

So far so good using the external drive. IDE to CF. adaptor arrived, still waiting on the CF card (sandisk ultra 30m/sec).

And here I thought I was going to have a fun evening. installing BT/Wi-Fi and a CF card into the mini.

of course not *nothing* worked :(

BT/Wi-Fi requires a special riser card > :( which would cost FAR more than I'm willing to spend on the machine. there goes the BT keyboard and audio.

Than the CF-IDE didn't work either. I think it's the cheap-o adaptor, in master mode the computer sees the card in system profiler, but does not see it as an available disk. with no jumpers it sees it as a disk, but it thinks its slave, so the optical drive is no longer seen and I just get an I/O error if I try to format it (already formatted with a card reader on my PBG4) as slave, nothing works... (I'm just guessing too, had no instructions) Guess I need cable select, which this does not seem to offer. Ordered a slightly better one(maybe?) from newegg.

Also got the USB to Ethernet thinggy, I'll play with that later... though I may not be able to run the mini in place of my router, my DSL requires some bandwidth shaping to work well (or else anytime I upload an image, screen share at work or our iphones back up to the cloud the internet chokes and becomes useless for anything else) Never used NAT in OS X server, but I'm guessing adjusting the bandwidth of blocks of (or individual) IP addresses is not one of the things it can do...

So update, more than a month on. the CF-IDE adaptor from newegg worked great, though I can't have the optical drive installed(no big loss). So I've been running off a CF card(sandisk 16GB UltraII) for over a month it's been working perfectly!

and still going great... Though after I installed The EyeTV software the external 1.5TB drive decided it doesn't want to sleep anymore :-/ (I use it as a sometimes DVR for the HDhomerun, scheduled through TitanTV)

next upgrade is USB2 to Gigabit ethernet(also need a gigE switch...) found the network speed is a bottle neck. Going to start working from home in a few months, so I need more speed! (may have to upgrade to an intel mini :'( but I'm going to try to make the G4 work first)
