Found a lot on eBay of 2 SCSI HDDs, an Apple HDI-20 Floppy drive and a spare case for another Apple HDI-20 Floppy Drive. Won it, and received it today. The 2 HDDs were identical, both 4.29GB Seagate Barracudas, one has a "wide" SCSI interface (never seen before, will post picture later) and the other, a "narrow" SCSI interface AKA 50-pin SCSI. Both drives are also apx. 2 inches in height. The 50-pin won't fire up. I have diagnosed the problem on the board as I took the "wide" SCSI board and put it on the untested drive, it fired right up.

The Floppy Drive is going to go untested, as I have no way to test it. I might sell the extra casing, but I want to make sure the other one is in fully working order before I do. It has the cable and everything.

The "truckload " thread with the SilentType printer reminded me of this thread. I also have a SilenType printer but it looks a little different than yours.

Notice the logo is not raised like yours:



And my label is different including the model number!



Mine came with my Apple /// that I don't think needed a card. I haven't truthfully tried it but I do have paper. I also have that little plastic tab but, sadly, my clear plastic shield is cracked. While compact, it weights a ton.

Interesting differences.

The Silentype connects to the Apple /// without the need of a connection card. Apple IIs on the other hand need the card. The card actually came would have come with the printer. Most of the ones I find are the A2M0032 models. I didn't even notice the different model number until after I had received it.

Picked up a Power Mac 6500/225 from a friend for $10, which included the original box. I forgot they were cat people (allergic to cats). Let it air out, and after partially disassembling it, I got a whiff of cigarette smoke, so I let it air out even more. Still smells like it, but it is not noticeable unless you spell one of the vents.

The case is in decent shape. There seems to be some damage on lower bottom part of the tower. The lower handle to pull out the logic board tray broke off at some point and the case has some rubber scuffs, like it was rubbed against a tire or something. Small scratches here and there, but nothing terribly bad.

Came with: 225MHz 603ev processor, 128MB of RAM , 3GB Quantum Fireball HDD, no ZIP Drive and OS 7.6. I swapped out the HDD with a newer, more reliable one from Seagate (its a 250GB HDD, so it only sees 128GB. Anyway around this?) which was my only spare, and wiped the old one. Installed OS 9.0 which I need to upgrade to 9.1 to make it complete. Then I'm going to add a USB and (maybe) an Ethernet card. Its going to be awesome!

Also picked up a free monitor from craigslist. The didn't say anything about except that it was a "newer computer monitor". I took a guess that it was an LCD and sure enough it was. Its a VGA-only Acer monitor from late 2008 (manu sticker on the back said so). Looks to be about 17"-20" diagonally (need to measure to be sure) and is 16x9. It actually worked very well with both my Quadra 605 and Power Mac 6500 through a Griffin DB-15 to VGA adapter.

Very nice! I'm a complete sucker for boxed items so getting the original box with your 6500 makes me swoon. Excellent work!

Also, I forgot; the box was from CompUSA, but at some point made it to a third party (pawn shop, swap meet, 2nd hand store) as $499.99 is written twice on the box.

I never really got to see a CompUSA. The only thing I remember was going in there when I was little and seeing a case for iPod 3rd gen and thinking "This is weird".

Re: CompUSA - the store I worked for, we just had a couple rows of Mac gear, no actual Apple Shop inside the store. Granted, this was back in '97-'99 when I was there (both employed and as a customer), so things probably changed later on.

Thanks volvo! the CompUSA that was near me was only open for a few years. It opened in early/mid 2000's and closed in 2007. Don't remember much. :-/

Bought 3 items from haplain and they arrived today:

• Apple IIe (platinum)
  G4 Cube Box
  iPod 1st Gen Box

IIe seems to work fine, but I need to get a composite cable to connect it to a TV (I can't believe I didn't have one). If I at least get some text on screen, I'm going to see about ordering an Apple // or /// monitor along with a FDD, FDD controller card, and some 5.25" diskettes. Also going to see about that Silentype card so I can test the Silentype I bought a month or so ago.

Its also my first non-Macintosh Apple Computer in my collection. Pictures coming when I get some spare time.

Friend gave me a Bluetooth dongle. Had no idea what I was going to do with it since it looked to be Windows only (judging by the driver disc), until I plugged it into the iMac G4 and it recognized it as a built in chipset. 8-o It finally gave purpose to my Wireless Keyboard I bought almost a year ago and I'm now on the hunt for a cheap Apple Wireless Mouse (Mighty or Magic).

Totally missed the question on the hard drive. Should be able to partition it into two or more smaller than 120 gb drives.

It's not that its not partitioning, its that Drive Setup is only seeing a 128GB disk to begin with. Its something with the IDE controller, IIRC. I know even the Sawtooth has this restriction, but isn't there supposed to be a way around it?

I forget but the cube has the same issue. There was a way around it for that but I will have to look around.

Also as an update, the 6500 is now running 9.2.2 thanks to OS 9 helper. Actually runs surprisingly well for being an unsupported OS. Of course the extra RAM probably helps.

Unrelated: Would this have been the one near SouthCenter? My family and I went there every once in a while, from 1998 to about 2003. I don't remember it really changing much, all the way out until we bought my TiBook there in 2003, it was offset a little bit from the rest of the store, but never enclosed, and it was just a few aisles with a flagship display out in the front, at the intersection of two aisles, and then some software along the back wall on the right, desktops along the back on the left, laptops on one of the shelves to the left,and miscellaneous mac-specific and mac-compatible things along the shelves in the middle.

If my memory and Google Maps serve correctly, the CompUSA I'm thinking of was right next to what's now the Best Buy off of SouthCenter Parkway.
