Testing a 128k MoBo in a 512kE?

I ordered a 128k board off of eBay and I want to make sure it works when I get it since it has been sitting in the service box for almost 30 years. I would leave the floppy drive unplugged. I just want to make sure it gets to the blinking floppy without a problem.

you should be fine, even your 800k drive should be able to read/boot 400k disks.

the 128k / 512k / 512ke board is pretty much all the same...

512k just has a mux and some larger capacity ram chips

512ke has all that + Plus Rom's and 800k floppy drive + (800k WIM Chip)? . might need verification with that, i'm a little not sure on that last one.

I've got System 1.1 on a 400k disk, which should work. :)

Excited to get it! Now I can look for upgraded 128k and replace its MoBo with this board.

Most 128k machines were upgraded to a Plus which replaced the rear bucket as the port layout is different. So if you find a Plus upgraded 128k/512k, you'll need a new rear bucket as well as your board.
