TCP/IP settings on Mac OS 7.6.1

Hi there,

I am trying to connect to my network (Ubiquiti Unifi) using a Quadra 700. I just want to share files so I can download software. I can't seem to find a way to get an IP number from the router. Any ideas how I might get this working? Works fine under OS 9.2.1.

Cheers,

Chris

I believe you will need to set an IP address manually. I'm assuming UniFi will provide you with a list of addresses currently being used on the network; see what those are, then give your Q700 its own number different from the other devices in OT.

Here's the definitive guide to networking older Macs: http://www.applefool.com/se30/

OpenTransport includes DHCP, but you may need to enable it, I believe in the TCP/IP control panel.

The other thing I typically do when I'm in there is go to the advanced or admin options and check the option to start the TCP/IP stack on every boot. For me, that makes connecting to TCP/IP resources a little faster and easier.

If you're not using OpenTransport yet, and you don't have a hard requirement for MacTCP, I highly recommend it. It's easier to use and more reliable. I believe it's also faster, and almost all mid-7 to 9 era software support it.

OpenTransport works at least back 7.1 Pro because that's what I'm running on my Q700. Connected to my wifi network using a AAUI-10BaseT tranceiver connected via ethernet to one of those super cheap amazon/ebay chinese wifi bridges.

You have to be careful which version of OT and use the version appropriate for your system version.

As Cory hinted at above, nothing will show up in the TCP/IP control panel when DHCP is selected, until something starts the networking stack*. Just launch netscape and see if it can load the garden.

*I think this is correct, but I'm going from memory here...
