TAM gets buzzed, joyrides in my car, texts Lindsay Lohan for

I'm testing Classilla 9.3.1 out this morning on the TAM by posting to 68KMLA from it (yes! :) more later). I'm noticing the more I use the TAM, though, that it develops a really annoying buzzing like the system bus is leaking into the audio. It doesn't happen right away; a hard power down fixes it, and then in the boot sequence (about when it would start enumerating AppleTalk devices) the buzzing starts. Occasionally the buzzing will disappear, but then comes back.

I'm wondering about a loose or wandering board connection (but to what?) or the CommSlot Ethernet card. Anyone heard of this before with the TAMs?

While dawdling around on Google, found a document from a TAM site alleging that oxidation on the power supply connector inside the subwoofer was the cause. Sounds at least vaguely plausible, and it's easy to try. Has anyone done that for theirs?

Mine does the EXACT same thing...not present at startup, will start a low buzz, static sounds after a few minutes (it seems to me that the static is coming from near the right speaker/ floppy drive area); and lately I've noticed will go away after 20 minutes or so. I have not been able to find a solution, and it's not very loud, it's a very low static sound. When I have time, I plan on a full cleaning of the sub/woofer power supply.

Short of tearing down the sub (not fun), try cleaning the umbilical connectors (both male and female) with contact cleaner spray, this seems to do the trick for a while.

Byrd, does SuperCheap have something like that, or do I need to go to Jaycar? I've relocated to Dalby, and the range of shops is now quite limited!

PS - All of the collection made the journey, safe and sound.

SuperCheap probably won't have it, Dick Smith might, Jaycar do have a number of resellers in country towns. You could probably do the same with some isopropyl alcohol (from a chemist) and pipecleaners. Dalby is fairly remote - have you moved there permanently?

Yep, moved here for work. I now have limited space for all of my gear, so I'm considering selling some stuff. I don't need every compact model ever made, even though I like having them. I probably should clear out the excess and keep what I need (or want!).

Thanks for the info.

my TAM did the same. I cleaned the connectors inside the subwoofer and the buzz was gone - for a few weeks :(

I removed the connectors and soldered it - now the buzz is gone for four or three years and still counting ;)

Bye,
