Strange ADB problem

I am having a strange problem with an ADB keyboard hooked up to a IIgs. If I connect it up and turn on, everything works fine. But, if I then turn off the computer, and turn it back on - without doing or touching anything else, the keyboard doesn't work at all. However, the ADB mouse (that is connected via the keyboard) still works. Other keyboards are work without problem as well. Disconnecting and reconnecting the keyboard restores it - but again, only for the first turn on.

Any ideas?

As I type this I realise I have not tried using the dodgy keyboard on a mac to see if the strange behaviour is evident there too. I will have a try tonight.

Without pretending any intimate knowledge about the ADB controllers concerned, I suggest that it sounds like expectable behaviour for a device that does not re-initialize at power-down or power-up-again. Shot IC? Bridgeing crud between traces or pins? How long a power-down between startups have you tried? (That is, do the PSU's filter capacitors discharge to near-zero voltage before you power-up again?)

I have the same problem, but with a completely different set-up... I have two LC 475s sharing a keyboard and mouse with a KVM switch. Whenever I switch between computers the keyboard stops working, but the mouse works fine. As in your case, disconnecting and reconnecting the cable solves the problem. I've tried several keyboard/cable combos, so it's definitely an issue with the KVM, but I always thought it was odd that the mouse was not affected.

Sorry, that's not much help...

Allow me to join you OT, only more so. I recently used a 3-position KVM to share a (Bondi) 17-in Studio Display and AppleDesign Keyboard between a 9600/G3/500MHz, a Beige G3 G4/500MHz, and summat else when I have decided. In my case it is the display that is randomly unimpressed by switching between the two that are connected. This keyboard puzzle could be implicated in that, or the switch itself. The ideas are food for further thought, however.
