SE/30 White Screen

Hi Community,

I just my SE/30 (Model 5119) today as I had already restored a iMac G3 and a couple of Palm devices.

The seller reported the screen to just go white. Before I first started it, I cleaned it and also inserted the ROM module properly as it was not properly connected. On first start, I got the system to boot into something and was also able to move the distorted cursor.

Unfortunately after shutting it down and restarting, it seems to have fallen back to the behaviour of just showing a white screen (Don't be fooled by my iPhone camera, the screen is full white):

For your reference, here are the images of the logic board:

Before I start fiddling around with this baby, I wanted to ask some people with a little more experience on what the cause of the issues may be. Battery looks pretty fine, RAM and ROM are all perfectly in place. I couldn't identify any damage on the logic board.

Looking forward to hear your opinion for which I'd me more than thankful! Also feel free to let me know if you need any additional images.

I'm no expert, but anytime I see CRT issues I immediately think the analog board needs to be looked at.

First, you are very lucky that the PRAM battery has not exploded. Remove or replace it immediately.

Then, just as every other SE/30 logic board this one will need some work. These capacitors look original and they already have leaked all over the logic board. Notice how the pins of UA8 to UG8 are mostly dull instead of shiny. They will have to be replaced and the board will need a thorough clean.

No problem with that battery, Saft are not known for going bad as Maxell are used to.
But, yes i agree with Rollmastr on both caps and cleaning the board first.

Thank you both for the information. I don't feel that I have the necessary skillset for the recap and I also do have way to much respect for that CRT and it's ability to kill me. Any recommendation for someone in Germany who could do it for me?

I can give you an address in Belgium for the recap.
Shipping shouldn't cost too much.
Guy recapped mine (and a bunch of other vintage logic board, including my Mac portable), does a professional job.
Very honest price as well.
Feel free to PM me if you'd like more info.

That would be absolutely wonderful! I am in Bonn, Germany just 2 hours from Brussels. Sent you a DM :)
