Craigslist can be your friend - and always be asking questions...

I answered a CL ad to pick up a period Sun monitor (GDM-1962) for some of my lunchboxes. Nice older gentleman; asked if he had any other items and he mentioned he also had "some old Apple stuff" in his garage that he'd picked up over time at 3M surplus auctions...

I came home with the IIfx (128MB RAM, 230MB HD, Ethernet card, monitor) a dual drive SE and a 512k with no keyboard, but didn't have enough cash on me for the 2 IIcx or 2 Quadra 700, along with a couple more of the Hi-res RGB monitors.

One of the Q700s looked pretty beat up, I may just get one IIcx and the good Q700.

IIfx was clean as a whistle inside. Put in two good batteries and it fired right up. I did a quick 7.5.3 install and all seems well.

Guy also had a bunch (like 19) NCD and HP Xterminals and an HP9000 to run them all. While there was a time in my life I would have thought that was fun, I had to pass on that many glass monitors! He says he also has some plotters and other "goodies" in storage.

Nice looking system! Never hurts to ask, although I never do. I rarely do business on Craigslist tho. That’s one clean looking system!

Congrats!  For $20 I think you've won the "Conquest of the month" award that totally exists and isn't something I just made up.

If a IIfx and 2 Quadra 700s are standard enough to keep in his garage I'd be curious as to his definition of goodies.

Re-reading now I see that figure isn't mentioned anywhere in your post...guess I really should have another cup of coffee :scrambled:

Today's work in the Nerd Corner.

I have two of these things. One is still totally dead after recap. This one came back after recap, but had a bad display. I swapped in the display of the other one, and all seems well.

I have a 6 volt battery running via jumper cables behind the scenes. Just need to figure out how to fit and mount it.

HD is loud as well. May be shopping with alaska360 for one of his adapter cables, and maybe a "ready to go" battery :)

Excellent! Love to see a Portable brought back from the dead.

Mine fully works aside from it sometimes saying it’s charging when it’s not even plugged in. It hasn’t caused any issues though, and it charges just fine when it’s plugged in.

Neat! I have two Portables in the closet. Neither one has been turned on since the late '90's.

One of these days I need to rebuild another battery and see if they still work.

(I rebuilt a battery back in the '90's but it's now as dead as the originals.)

Maybe when it gets cooler out in the shop I'll get back into the "recap" mood.

Awesome! I actually have 4. I still need to get a new battery
Even though I had a workable 6V battery I could have retrofitted, I popped on eBay for one of the 3D printed replacements from 360alaska. Works like charm!

Deciding now whether I should make/buy the 34-pin -> 50 pin adapter cable and put in a SCSI2SD....

The cable is not hard to make, just time consuming, in the other hand the adapter is bulky and is not easy to find enough room to accomodate it.

Just my two cents.

And here I thought the 81mb of RAM in my IIfx was huge. 128mb! That must have cost an absolute fortune back in the day to obtain. Now you need some special Nubus boards to put in that IIfx.

If I were you, I would take both Q700's if possible. Even a beat up one fetches a nice amount of cash if functional due to the Jurassic Park connection.
