SCSI zip drive

Got this little beauty off of eBay for $25. I’d been really wanting one of these! Makes getting files from my PowerBook G4 to my vintage Macs so much easier! This was definitely a very good investment for my vintage Macs.

This one came with the the original Iomega carry bag, disks, cables and paperwork.

At at first glance on eBay these things appear to be ridiculously expensive (like $60+), but if you are patient (like I was) they can be had for much, much less.

Congrats, yes Zip drives are useful.

Expensive ones are the SCSI variant, the // port are much more cheaper.

Another option are Iomega Jaz, just collected a pair and those are probably more reliable than the Zip, and disk are bigger in size.

I considered one of those (and do still plan to get one someday), but there doesn’t seem to be a USB version of those, so that would still make file transfer from more modern systems tricky. But as far as transferring files between two old Macs, it seems like a very good option

Edit: You could get one of those USB to SCSI dongles for the jaz, but those things are stupidly expensive! I really don’t know why though. I guess maybe because it’s a specialty item? Either way I think it’s really stupid being that they are probably made in China for about $5.

Or found one for cheap...

Found one a couple of years ago for 1 euro, still boxed (not using it too much though)

Nice zip find! I agree Zip drives can be had for a reasonable price if you stalk but $25 is an exceptionally good price for that lot. I’ve never even seen a case before.

Wow! That was a good deal! They usually sell for about $100 to $150 on eBay (at least in the US anyways). I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled.

I’ve seen them a few times before. It’s definitely a really cool accessory! :)

You can get internal zip drives for Wallstreet laptops , I have a stack for Thinkpad 600's as well.

I had no idea they were going for so much on eBay.  I guess I should have figured that, being that prices seem to go insane on eBay.

I made it a habit back then to always order my Macs either with the Zip Drive built in (8600, G3, G4) or get the internal kit after.  I never had an external drive before the firewire version I bought.

I did find a SCSI Zip 100 at a thrift store a year or so ago for $7 in the box.  It was actually brand new and everything was still in the factory bags.  I was quite happy about that, although I don't recall seeing a Macintosh disk in the package and I did unseal the envelope, but it has the PC disk and the Tools disk, which also has the Mac software on it.

NIGHT STALKER
Great find, love the newish ones with accessories. The only one I have with the bag and tiny power brick is a Zip+ gifted to me by a member. Leave it to you to have a Zip carryall with a Parisienne flair, bibilit. Very cool. Have you guys got pics of your bricks? I'm wondering about variations for the portable sets.

About the PowerBook drives, all of mine have been upgraded with Zip250 mechanisms from Dell laptop modules, very handy for use with the USB variety on the Windows FirefoxWorkstation.

Gave my SCSI zip, along with a bunch of other SCSI stuff I thought I'd never need again, to Goodwill several years ago.

Kicking myself now.

Recently ran across the Zip manual & driver floppy while sorting through old crap.

A painful reminder...

Oh yeah, that hurts. I don't want to think about how much I spent on ebay re-acquiring a set of early 90s BMUG newsletters after I gave mine away (or possibly threw them in the trash *shudder*) before a cross country move that was priced by weight. At least I have them all back now (plus several earlier ones I didn't have previously).

One ill-advised donation can hamper a person's ability to declutter for a lifetime.

I still have the SCSI Zip I bought from the local Mac shop back in like the late 90s to use with my IIsi. A little beat up but surprisingly still works without any issues.

Ha ha! Indeed! I already have issues with accumulating stuff. (Or so I am told.)

Now I'm more gun shy than ever!

I also got rid of an external SCSI Yamaha cd burner, a NIB XLR8 carrier card, and half a dozen loose SCSI HD's in that same dump...

Go ahead, shame me, I deserve it. :p

I have a bunch of internal ZIP drives (mostly because of Mac G3/G4 towers) and a couple externals (parallel and SCSI). They come in hand for sneakernet and I have a big stack of media for them.
