I'm working on a few things for my site and I wanted to link to manuals for early releases of System software. But... I'm having difficulty finding existing scans online for the various revisions. I'm hoping to track them down through this site so can get them added to the internet archive if they haven't been scanned yet. I've included links to copies I have found:
  • 1.0: 030-0687 128k/512k owner's guide, System 1.0 Finder 1.0
  • 1.0: 030-0687-A 128k/512k owner's guide, not sure what changed
  • 1.1: 030-0687-B 128k/512k owner's guide, possibly updated for System 1.1 Finder 1.1g?
  • 2.0: no info, possibly an insert, System 2.0 / Finder 1.1g
  • 2.1: 032-0017 insert, 12 pp. Introduced new features in System 2.0 Finder 4.1?
  • 3.0: 030-1246-A Plus owner's guide. Covers System 3.0 Finder 5.1?
  • 3.x: 030-1246-B Plus owner's guide, no sure what changed
  • 3.x: 030-1326-A 512Ke owner's guide.
  • 030-1320-C a combined 512Ke (512K/800) and Plus Manual
  • 4.0: 030-1242-A Plus Owner's Guide, 1987. Covers System 4.0 Finder 5.4.
  • 5.0: 031-1302-Macintosh New Features Update
  • 6.0: 030-3294-A Plus Owner's Guide, 1988.
  • 6.0: 030-3294-B Plus Owner's Guide, 1988. I have this one, will scan.

I have 030-3294-A which I can scan at some point. Wonder what's different with the B revision!

The B version is missing the alternate disk chapter and has some screenshots with newer icons and font mover. It was discussed on this forums years ago could be lost too

I have both 030-0687-B and 030-1246-A and they will be scanned as part of my ongoing scanning effort when I get to that shelf. Please feel free to poke me in my accountability thread if I get quiet on the subject, here https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/cheeseys-manual-scanning-accountability-thread.50415/
Thanks! I recently got a a Macintosh 512k system, and also a 128k motherboard, so will likely flip through the manuals as part of playing with these early systems

Here's a scan of 030-0687-B which I did tonight. The PDF is big because I tried to scan the photographic pages in perhaps excessive quality.

Of course, feel free to re-encode/compress/archive/make available for download/whatever.

Thanks! And thanks for going for excessively high quality. You can always downsample, but up-sampling is all guesswork, even with today's models. I eventually stopped asking other people to scan things for me because I invariably got them at 70 or 90 dpi (or less) from which it was pretty much impossible to create something both accurate AND printable/readable.

Yes, those scans were high-quality enough to see at least two examples of a Twiggy Mac!

Interesting as well to see this early mouse with a "Lisa"-style plug and no thumbscrews:
