alright well i've started repairs on the iBook 14", starting with the LCD frame which can be viewed here.

its late and i'm tired, but basically i decided that repairing it was more economical than trying to buy a replacement.

done :D

luckily it was much less repair work than the TiBook, but it had about 4x as many screws. i really really really do NOT want to have to take it apart again. pic here

its full specs are 700MHz, 640MB RAM, 30GB HD, Combo drive, airport card.

I've wanted one of those icebooks since they came out. They are, in my opinion one of the nicest-looking laptops to come out of Cupertino. That was one of the major reasons that I got the white MB instead of the black one.

its actually quite a nice machine. i've put 10.4 on it, along with office 2k4, photoshop 7, and iPhoto 5 and its running along fine.

only real downside to it is that the previous owner also broke the latch which keeps it closed, but my sister has a nice soft case to keep it in which has two velcro straps to keep it closed when not in use and i've threatened her under penalty of death to keep it in a safe place when not in use.

as for actual use, its perfect. not a damn thing wrong with it. i could find a replacement latch it would be in near-new condition (except for the epoxy'd frame of course lol).

Didn't you mention in another thread that the frame was also twisted in the same place where it is broken? Wouldn't that make lining things up and getting a secure fit difficult even if you could rejoin the broken ends?

yeah it did. i chose a mix between the two, so the frame is still bent to a smaller degree, yet the seam is mostly joined so the end result is a very strong frame with a minimal amount of bending.

Unfortunately, not only is the frame bent but the main chassis and plastic bits are bent slightly as well, meaning that closing it is nigh on impossible.

i'm going to open it back up again and spend some more time getting the fit and finish just perfect once i get through the other two laptops.
