Running LC without FAN?

I have replaced the scsi drive with sd card, so the only sound is coming from fan attached to the bottom case. What do you think, would be ok running it without? Is the 68020 without fpu hot? And the PSU of 60W shouldn't be either? That would be nice like Mac Plus quiet machine but in color.

You could replace it with one of those super silent fans. So you won't risk toasting your LC.

The airflow will be dramatically increased as well.

If you were running it without the case top, I would say "sure!"

Though the LC is a '020 @ 16MHz, it does heat up, though the rate of heating up is slower than most Macs of that era. But that case restricts airflow and the heat has nowhere to go. The fan is there to pump the heat out through the bottom. So like BadGoldEagle stated, replace the fan with a super quiet one if noise is a concern.

I also recommend using a fan. Apple sold a dual drive LC without a hard drive. It still needed a fan to keep cool (remove your HD and test it out). Also, the LC's case doesn't really have much in the way of ventilation to be used without a fan (think about the problems in a fan-less Plus, now make them ten times worse).

What recommendations do people have for a replacement fan for the LC? I'm assuming modern varieties won't work, or will they?

Stick a tall heatsink on it (well, as tall as you can fit). It will be fine @ stock speeds.

Any same-sized fan with an equal or higher voltage rating will work, but you might have to replace the connector with the one from the old fan.

You also have the option of attaching a 120Ω (or similar value) resistor inline on the fan cable. I did that for my Q630 and it reduced the noise by about half.
