Repair Outlook Express 5 / OS 9.2

Hello,

I've got a beautiful IMac G3 Rev. B from 1998. All ist running well, but it seems that the Outlook Express 5 installation is corrupt. When I start the program the welcome screen appears but then the error " the rule file ist corrupt" is displayed. After that OE quits.
I deleted the existing installation by moving the folder to the trash and reinstalled OE, but the same error appears.
It seems that the previous owner has deleted some files but not correctly deinstalled the program.
IE 5.0 runs without problems.

Any ideas to solve the problem ? Do i have to remove some more components and reinstall it ?

Greetings,

Marcus

Sorry for the delay on this! I keep thinking I'm going to go look and never do.

My guess is that the rule file is somwhere, either with the OE5 application config or with the user profile data - so it could be in liek HD:Documents: or HD:SYstem Folder: - basically find that file, delete it, and Outlook Express should make a new empty rule file.

If you're still on the previous owner's OS installation, the other strategy is to proceed with wiping the whole disk so the OS is in a state you know up front. If this sub-version will run 8.1, I have an EN-US ISO available, although other local versions may be available online, otherwise, grab a 9.1 or 9.2.1 image in your favorite localization and start with that.

finally I managed it to run, I found the relevant folder. I could even read some old mails of the previous owner from 2003
