Folks....

I *finally* have a working DVD drive in my B&W.  And I have *finally* updated to Tiger.  I am running a G4 Yikes! logic board @ 500Mhz.  Tiger is installed, as well as the apple updates. I have yet to install OS 9.22.

What I am looking for now, are recommendations for a browser or two for Tiger.  I use gamil.  Is a browser around that will work under Tiger that will let me send and receive my gmail email?

Thanks in advance,

The built-in version of Safari might work, but probably only on basic mode, presuming it accepts Google's SSL certificates at this point.

After that, really the only viable game in town is tenfourfox. I don't know what performance of tenfourfox will be like on a G4.

One more thought: OmniWeb might still has a version that will run on 10.4, but if I remember correctly, its SSL certificates and rendering engine are tied to the host OS version, so it won't really be any better than Safari, except for any potential quality of life improvements you like, pertaining to things like side-tabs, page preview, multiple rows of bookmarks, etc.

TenFourFox is interesting on a 500 MHz G4. Hmm.

Camino used to be my favorite OS X Tiger browser, its former team lead went on to drive much of Apple’s Safari development during the HTML5 days. It is probably one of the better performing options but at the end of the day, it’s based on an old Firefox build that’s not very secure to use unless you turn off plugins, JavaScript and Java.
