Radius PrecisionColor 24XP ROM needed

I dug out a Radius PrecisionColor 24XP from my pile of Nubus cards which I knew had some kind of problem.

Just for reference, we are talking about this card:

It is supposed to have ROM version 1.3.2. My IIci gives the chimes of death once the card is installed. The Q950 boots up normally but the card does not show up in SlotInfo. However I can select the slot the card is in, it just shows up empty.

That is why I suspect the ROM on my card to be faulty.

Does anyone have this card as well and can dump the ROM for me? There also is a V2.0 of the ROM supposed to be out there.

Wow! I wasn't expecting to see a card looking like yours at all. Mine is 6.5" with the VRAM ICs placed vertically and has a socketed PLCC ROM.

If nobody has read either version for you, I'll send mine off to joe when I'm done messing with RocketShare boot drive setup for the IIsi in the IIcx. That made putting hands my card easy! Sometimes procrastination works out very favorably.

Yours probably is a PrecisionColor Pro 24XP then I think. The ROM still might work in my card though (or at least is worth a try)

Edit: just saw a picture of a card like mine with ROM V1.4.2 as well.

Might could be, we'll definitely run that experiment. [}:)]

Not a lot of help here given the a DOA DeclROM at your end, but someone could add data points even if they can't read their ROM.

TattleTech:

Radius PrecisionColor Xp Series

B0ard ID = 1323

Revision Level = Version 2.0

Steve Lemke did the firmware, so I can't imagine it won't work with the older cards in the series.

I just bought that exact card. Should have it this week.  I can test it in my IIci.  I have a PROM Burner that I can dig out and make you a copy. The ROM on mine says V1.2.2 The only thing I'm not sure of is if I have any 256K EPROMS.

I may be able to load it into the burner and save to disk, or if you know of another way to dump the ROM I can try that.

I almost bid on that card, but decided I have enough PrecisionColorPros, and Thunders. :)  Hopefully your rom might help Bolle.
It looked like it was in good shape. I bid on it to run some tests and see if it's faster than my Supermac Spec 24/III.

I just bought a PrecisionColor 24xp AND a Spectrum/24 Series IV. I feel like I got a better deal on the former than the latter but the Radius looks identical to Bolle's (ROM v1.3.2). I don't have the equipment to dump but if there's a cheap way to do it (there's a ton of USB programmers on Amazon), I would give it a try... might help me diagnose the the Q700 I'm still convinced got hosed by a bad 24x

Would one of the $10 USB EEPROM programmers work well enough to dump my 24XP or do I need something else?

Wanted to edit my above post but too much time has passed..

This is 100% Bolle's thread. I didn't mean to appear as if I was hijacking it - I am more than willing to dump my 24XP ROM to help provide another data point (the cards arrived today). Sorry!

I have a burner and empty 27C256s myself, I would just need the ROM image. If you could dump that one with your programmer I would be happy ;)

If someone else with a 1.3.2 or even the 1.4.2 ROM wants to chime in as well I'd take those as well. Comparing someone else's dump of 1.3.2 to what I got out of my chip would quickly show me if mine is faulty or not.

@pb3623 The 10$ programmers usually are fine but might not have big enough sockets for 27C256 and greater chips. If you are looking to buy one anyways I would check out the MiniPro TL866. You can get those really cheap from China and they work very well.

OK-- I'll get the burner and see what I can do.  It's an old Data IO 29B-- I'm pretty sure it can do 27256 .

Thanks a bunch, looking forward to it.

I already tried the ROM of PrecisionColor Pro 24X which did not work on my card.

The card showed up as PC Pro 24X like one would expect and it also did not bomb the IIci right at the moment the card initializes but I am not getting any video output frmo the card.

I guess the newer ROMs (or at least the one I was able to try in particular) are not compatible with the older non-pro cards.

Card works like a charm now, thanks a lot.

So the ROM really was broken when I first got it.

Still curious about any other ROM versions if anyone has them.
