QuickTake 150 on Macintosh SE

I have a Macintosh SE and I love it. I use it for all sorts of dinking around with my ImageWriter II and BBS fun, too. I recently acquired a QuickTake 150 and was wondering if it was possible in any way to use it with my SE. it says it requires a 68020 and obviously a plain SE can’t have that but I’m wondering if (more like hoping) there are any workarounds. I’d like to use the camera - it even has the AC adapter! It would open up the functionality of my computer A LOT.

Sorry but probably will not work. The QuickTake is a bit picky, and the SE is not suitable enough to cope.
A PowerBook will be the perfect tool to play with it.

Awesome. So I don't _think_ that's an SE FDHD, and you don't have a hard drive, so you won't even be able to install the software. So you might be out of luck with your SE.

Any other *newer* mac should work, up until OS 7.6. All you'll need to do is install the software. Powerbooks work, but so will a Classic II, or anything with a 68030. My main machine for downloading images is a Quadra 605.

btw, I just made this site for vintage digicam images. If you ever get your quicktake shots on a modern computer, upload them.

Oooh! I like your snazzy site! Hopefully I find a means to get this camera working and can post on there sometime soon. My SE currently has access to (if needed) a RASCSI, a floppyemu and a scsi2sd as well as my oldnet wifi modem. I just have to find a way to get the QuickTake to talk to a computer that can then talk backwards to my SE I guess.

If my SE will not work, is there a good ‘go between‘ computer (ideally a PowerBook) that is more modern but still can recognize the QuickTake cameras? I’d like to find something that doesn’t have to be recapped and is decently easy to work on. Recapping scares the heck out of me.

I've tried. Oh man I've tried. Making a PC serial cable didn't work, and using a new MiniDIN-8 cable between the Quicktake and a Quadra didn't work. Emulators don't work, and a vintage USB->Serial adapter and a G3 iBook didn't work. Your best bet is an old mac.

You could try the SE, see if it installs. You might be able to get the images off the SE, but there might be a memory limitation in actually opening them. If you can get them off, send them to something that could convert the images to jpeg. I don't know of any programs offhand.

My last attempt a couple of years ago, my Powerbook made the trick to get it working.

Quicktake is using Quicktime to get things going, so newer versions don't like the older version.

Probably a Powerbook 160 or 1400 will work nice with the QT.

The Powerbook 160 worked but was very slow...
