Have a nice quadra 840av. Removed old caps, no leaks i could see. Computer functioned normal. removed old caps, cleaned board with isopropyl 91% soak and light scrub. Rinsed and let dry with distilled water. Let dry. Recapped with tantalums. She turns on, gets the chime, hear scsi, but after 5 seconds i get what I think is a death chime. No video. Anywhere i should check / look.

ok, finally got video, and flashing folder icon. I dont seem to have a bootable floppy for this model. It isn't seeing my SCSI bus or hard drive. What chip would take care of this on a 840? This was a clean fully working unit before recap. its close, just need some help on this last bit

The chip appears to be a AM79C950

Wikipedia says this is used through the ANS and PM9500 as well, and it is a combined SCSI, serial, and network controller

I once bought a quicksilver g4 dual 800 from westworld computers in Edmonton years before "apple stores" so this was a reseller. They had this tower on for a low price because the techs could not figure out the issue with it. So I snagged it and brought it home. Sure enough, stupid thing had issues. Played around with it, noticed the IDE cable had a hole in it. Changed cable, and never had an issue again lol...was the best deal ever on a Mac tower at the time :)
