PPC601 Upgrade card is not detected anymore

Hello,

The PPC card on my Quadra 650 isn't detected anymore, neither by the PPC601 Control Panel or TattleTech.

I tried in a Quadra 800 and no luck either.

The regulator get hot (40-50°C by hand), and the CPU get a little colder, so there is power going through it.

The thermal paste is bad, but it shouldn't matter because the radiator get as hot as the 601

Picture below for reference (P/N 820-0562-A)

Anyone got a similar problem or ideas how to troubleshoot this further ? It was working last time this Quadra was stored.

Regards

Fixed.

I had two issues :

The first was that I was using the wrong control panel. Another user got the same problem here:

Second issue I had, is that the card is incompatible with an Asante NuBus card reference MC3NB (ST-NIC-V) (leaving the card inside the Quadra would result in a Chime of Death)

If thats helpfull for other people, I will leave the post as is.

I've the 100Mhz Daystar version of this card which does not work, although the machine refuses to boot with it installed.  It's a rainy day project to investigate more as I can't see anything physically wrong with it.

I'd clean your PDS and card contacts with electronic solvent cleaner, remove heatsink and replace thermal grease.

Yes, I've seen several of these cards where the PDS connector is filled with fluffy white corrosion. Not sure of the source (likely something caused by a leaked PRAM battery) but it's not too hard to clean off.

Never been a big fan of the PPC Upgrade Cards, but I have one or two with the short-lived yellow 601 chip, so I keep them around.
