Powerbook 1400cs Trackpad not working

Hi Guys,

I finally got a Powerbook and it actually does work. The only setback is the not working trackpad.

The only work on it I have done so far is replacing the backup battery. My hopes were that this gets the trackpad working again as well. I have cleaned connectors etc but the trackpad remains unresponsive.

On the hard drive is a System 7 installed. Attempting to open open the trackpad control panel leads to an error message "Trackpad not supported on this model" (from memory).

Any advice to get it going would be highly appreciated. Also considering rebuilding the battery - saw a few tutorials.

I recommend doing a fresh complete system install and start from there. Also swapping the old harddrive with an IDE-CF Card Adapter and CF Card.

Have you recapped the machine? Bad caps could cause such errors. How did you go about replacing the PRAM battery? The trackpad cable is in pretty close proximity.

Does anyone have a list of capacitors required? I would just order them in and get started once I have them. Just have it assembled again and want to use it with mouse for now.

I doubt that caps would break the trackpad of all things… it’s never a bad idea to recap one of these but I don’t think it will fix your issue. More likely just a broken part.
