This is really weird. I just bought a powerbook 160 and it works has some screen problems but it works. I had to put a powerbook 165 board in it becuase it kept giving sad mac chimes even with the ram removed. Anyway last night i turned it off it was still plugged in and when i come into the room its on. Weird i turn it off again. Now im sleeping and the thing just starts making static noises at 4am. Wtf so i see if theres a setting on it and theres not. I zap the pram and a loud pop comes from inside the computer Then it goes to sad mac chimes and  The bedroom door slams shut! Probably a coincidence but i have it put away until i can find whats going on. I was able to restore the hard drive on another powerbook and i did a search on the previous owner it belonged to a dead guy who died in 1999! This thing is crazy.

It is not possessed. its not some spiritual being that comes into fruition when it wants to, or when it doesnt. Even though you may think it does. :)

The trouble is either the power brick if its original Apple OEM, it has leaking capacitors and likely needs changed .

The other problem is the little rechargeable battery that is in the hinge gap area of the lid. This goes bad, and can cause the power manager to freak out. The other thing is the main battery, it will cause all kinds of problems if the main battery is still installed.

Both batteries need removed, and the AC adapter needs to be recapped.

That is all. These machines are pushing close to 30 years old, so weird things are going to happen mainly due to age.
