PB G4 Titanium display repair project

I received this as a donation for my PowerPup project. :D (He was tired of messing with it so he gave it to me, but I wanted to at least pay for shipping. ;) )

The display doesn't work, so when I got it I hooked it up to an external monitor to see if that would work. Fortunately it does. :D

It came with Red Hat Linux, but it wouldn't work with the external monitor. So I just wiped it and installed Mac OS X.

Pictures of it in it's current state.

I've taken the laptop apart, so I could figure out if I needed a new inverter board or display cable. Poking a straightened paper clip inside the screen helped me determine that the cable was bad. It would cause about 1/3 of the screen to work either garbled or correctly. Enough jiggling would make stuff show on the rest of the screen, but all garbled/not updated.

I've finally purchased everything I need to open the screen and repair the display cable. I just to wait for them in the mail. :p

I'll take some pictures when I actually do the repair.

(After this repair, all that will be left is a new bottom cover and a new battery. ::) )

The reason why I've posted this here and not as a conquest is because I'm going to use this topic to show the repair. (Don't ya just love smilies?) :D

Well, I finally got that new display cable today. :D So I got right to it, I took apart my laptop and tried to fix it.

Pics of repair.

Sadly. It turns out to be the controller board on the LCD that's bad. Meaning I'll need to get a whole new screen. :( I'm not too disappointed. I'll probably leave the screen off the laptop until I get it replaced. (One day...)

I just went and bought a new screen for my PowerBook G4 today! :D

Now all I have to do is wait 3-4 days. Finally, I'll be able to use it as a laptop, except I don't have a battery for it yet. :p Oh well, one step at a time. ;)
