OMP or 2100...

The Newton 2100 is popular for it's performance and usability under current applications and uses, where the Newton OMP and 1x0 series are popular for their retro and classic value.

What I want to know is just what do you prefer in a Newton. Retro factor, or Current Usability?

I have both (actually, it is a 100). I love them both.

I use the 2100 for the space, speed and heavier apps. It tends to be my daily use machine.

I use my 100 (close enough to the OMP) for special occassions, having copied over certain dates and contacts for special use. When I was working as an independent consultant, I kept dates for that, and related contacts on the 100 to seperate work and play. It worked out great, allowing me to grab the right tool for the day when I went off.

The 2100 doesn't have title to being the "Original Newton".

I just prefer having the first series of Newton. The original.

Despite having appalling battery life due to one bad AAA cell I love my OMP. Still though, a 2100 would be great just for the massive amount of things it can do that the OMP cannot. At the moment I often am using my OMP when I don't have it's batteries in a charger.

Just so you know, getting Nickel Cadmium batteries and a real Newton power adapter is totally worth it. I do not recommend not having a Newt adapter and Nickel Metal Hydride cells as they are a pita to keep removing for charging. On a side note, IIRC you should not even charge Nickel Metal Hydride cells in an OMP anyway so be sure to get Nickel Cadmium cells.

In the end though if you can get your hands on both the OMP and 2100 then go for it.

I wish I had a Newton 2100 -- I almost got on on LEM-Swap a long time ago, but someone else grabbed it :(

But I would choose a 2100 over the OMP. :)

Since getting my MessagePad 2000, my old 120 has gradually fallen into disuse because the 2000 is more functional. However I like the 120 because it is easier to hold than the 2000 and has a generally more aesthetically pleasing design.

Lets make this more interesting now... is the OMP's or 2x00's design preferred? And I haven't left out eMate, i'm just leaving that for a bit later.

I like the design of the OMP better since it fit in the hand better, but the screen was too smooth. The MP130 had a slight texture which was like writing on paper.

The OS is also really, really stable. Palm OS isn't anymore and Windows Mobile is a mess.
