Ok, i cant seem to find where these traces go. Even on a known working board. Before i solder u63 back onto this quadra 800 i want to make sure that those traces connect. I do know that there are broken traces in the picture, they will be fixed. This was a battery damaged board. If anyone is familiar where those traces go on a wombat board please reply. They do go under ram simms. I just can tell where from there.

Well, great news boys and girls. I yanked off a u63 chip from another board, and fixed up the traces.. she came alive!! Woohoo.. this has been a long project.. u63 made the difference. Thank-you to lobust, that was indeed the issue, cheers!

well, short lived. she wont find my hard drive. I had a chime every time before u63 was replaced no video etc, now sporadic chime and no video. Must be some bad connection. Will see I guess..this one has been aggravating. It booted right up from hard drive before.

ok, well I got the chime and screen to be working consistently, will boot from floppy if I had a proper floppy for this model. Still is not finding a scsi, either a internal or external. Is this also to do with u63? when I first replaced it, it booted up fine.

i don‘t know, but that is very interesting because your board is now in the exact same state as my other wombat board, on which I have gone to quite significant lengths to get scsi working to no avail. This particular board was never battery bombed and I have never been near U63 on it, but it died in a similar fashion - scsi worked fine, then it worked sporadically, then it didn’t work at all.

I am not able to mess around with this right now unfortunately, as I am tied up with work and that board and all my equipment is still in storage from moving…

Ok, got the board working again.. so close to being tossed lol.. i reflowed scsi, and u63. Got it to boot, but now i am getting wonky scsi with finder error type 10. I can boot from internal or external. Problem is, as soon as i open the hard drive icon i get that error type 10 and only option to restart. I can open hard drive folder on external but only shows 1 item and i know there are many items on that hard drive.. so getting closer again.

Does this drive still work normally on another Mac?

I corrupted at least one disk while messing with mine...

I gave up..listed the parts on flea bay lol..done with the board. I bought a 650 board to replace it but the seller wrecked that one when he pulled off the heat sink to take picture of CPU. Tried to fix it, but no, two POS boards... to many hours of frustration. I have my recapped 840, and recapped 660 working so that's good enough for me. My drive still works to answer your original question

So she is booting off floppy consistently now. Still no scsi. It makes my drive make noise when it is attached to computer though, kind of like static or ticking. It is a known good drive. Just hope testing it isn’t killing it like this

Ok, so messed around with this turd of a board. Got it to consistently turn on chime, video, boot from disk tools disk. Still no scsi, but if my hard drive is hooked up, it sounds like it is trying to make access, makes ticking, static kind of noise. I know the drive works. Also, i did replace scsi chip off of centris board. One other thing i noticed is two dram slots give me the chimes of death if ram is in them. Same ram in other two slots work perfect. They worked fine before. One step forward, three back I guess
