My Update Log

Chapter 1 is written...so far I'm happy with it. I shall work extensively on the book tomorrow on my day off (which I can enjoy for once now that I've done all the spring cleaning that wasn't done in the spring).

do we get in in chapters or do we wait for the whole book at the end?

or do we have to wait until the end of ' book editing ' month?

You will get the entire book at month's end...

The title, as of now, is "The Religious Rights". And yes, it's being done on a Mac Plus.

And, in bigger news, I got myself an old version of PageMaker, I think the little number on the disk label says 4.0.1. I may be laying it out in that instead of Publish It! Easy. It only comes on four 800K disks and I think the date on the disk is 1990 so it should work on the Plus in spite of the little 9" monitor...but that puts the "challenge" in RetroChallenge, right?

Update: The story is progressing nicely. I've had to make some supplemental materials along the way, delaying the actual story a little bit, but I have confidence that it will be done on time.

Only one minor problem so far--the Plus's screen is starting to flicker a bit. Figures--it was a 512K that was upgraded and still has its original 23 year old analog board. I do have an extra analog board on hand just in case.

How's everything else feeling? Enjoying the distraction free word processing? Keyboard working out? Missing anything about a more modern system?

I actually am not missing anything about the modern system--I've got my CD player blasting out my music through headphones (the CD 300e drive on the Plus, that is) and am enjoying the old keyboard. I may hook up my numeric keypad for editing so I can have arrow keys.

Got the front cover done...now to finish the story, proof it, and then put it through PageMaker!

Sweet! The title of your book sounds interesting anyway. How will you publish it, PDF? What's the book about, generally? Or is that secret until publishing time?

Yeah, the old keyboards were so nice to type long things on. My modern laptop has probably the crummiest keyboard known to man, but I have never used a nicer keyboard that on my Tandy 102. Don't make 'em like they used to.

I'm not sure how I will publish it due to the format. I'm thinking of taking it to Office Max and having it bound into a little book. As far as submitting it to RetroChallenge, I'll send a variety of formats since I'm not sure what the judges have on their systems.

I really hope my Plus makes it through the next few days as I finish up my project...the screen is getting shakier and shakier as the Plus is nearing temporary retirement (since I don't know when I'll get around to fixing the analog board on it) and I hope nothing shorts out between now and 11:59 PM on Thursday night!
